Status: Seasonal Full-Time

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Ski and Ride School Supervisor is responsible and accountable for the daily operation of the daily lesson plans with the instructors as well as the Children's Center operation at Granby Ranch. This position is directly responsible to ensure excellent success for the Ski and Ride School division in relationship to the following: guest satisfaction, employee growth and training, Ski and Ride School products are delivered properly to the guest, the safety and security of each guest, child, and employee associated with the Ski and Ride School products.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Always adhere to all safety requirements and standards (see Know The Code), including but not limited to loading and unloading lifts safely.
  • Assist with the management and administration of operations to produce successful, professional and efficient experience for the members, guest and employee, which includes adult, youth and children ski and ride programs.
  • Responsible for assisting with the hiring, training, and development of all staff members.
  • Leading a daily line up, fencing, tickets, rentals and break downs/clean ups of our outside and inside spaces.
  • Assist direct reports in creating annual goals that support those of Granby Ranch and the department's vision.
  • Provide formal and informal feedback to all staff members and recognize and reward exceptional performance.
  • Attend and actively participate in all operational meetings and required company functions.
  • Communicate information to all staff to ensure the proper distribution of resort activities, events and changes.
  • Ensure the accurate accounting of revenues, expenses and company assets.
  • Support a seamless experience for the guest in the Rental Shop with the visibility of the Ski and Ride School staff. Instructors will be visible and actively support the Rental Shop flow. They will be trained to be knowledgeable to answer questions, assist with boot fittings and direct the guest to the proper Ski and Ride School meeting location.
  • Assist with the development of the Ski and Ride School policies and operating procedures to assure safety, accuracy, accountability and security for Granby Ranch, members, guests and employees.
  • Ensure departmental operating standards are being met daily. Meet with employees weekly to review these standards and assist with planning to continually improve the professionalism of Ski and Ride School.
  • Must be able to document when actions are not in accordance with policies and procedures and deliver disciplinary actions either by verbal or written warnings up to and including termination.
  • Adhere to and enforce child safety laws and mandatory reporting.

  • Maintain an exceptional level of guest service in all interaction with guests, fellow employees, and management.
  • Assist and support other departments for races, events and operations on high volume days.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to ski/snowboard proficiently to teach lessons.
  • Must have strong communication skills and interact courteously with staff and guests.
  • Must have knowledge of PSIA/AASI teaching methods.
  • Must exhibit excellent leadership skills.
  • Ability to supervise in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude when communicating with guests, students, and staff.
  • Talking to others to convey information effectively.
  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

  • Speak, read, write in English fluently.

  • Teach loading and unloading the ski lift safely.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES:

  • Hiring, training, reviewing and disciplining employees
  • Coaching, motivation and development
  • Oversee scheduling of all instructors and general staffing
  • Verify work activities and problem solving
  • Approximate number of instructors and staffing to oversee is 40-60 employees

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • College degree preferred.
  • PSIA/AASI certification preferred.
  • 2 years experience teaching snow sports lessons required.
  • 2 years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must be physically capable to perform strenuous exercise at 8,000-10,000 feet with adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35lbs.
  • Dexterity for utilizing keyboard, ski equipment
  • Verbal and auditory abilities necessary for communication with others.
  • Skiing, Walking, Kneeling, Squatting, Climbing (ladders), Reaching, Grabbing, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting, Sitting, Standing.
  • Provide own ski/ride equipment, clothing and accessories necessary for work outdoors in high alpine winter environment.
  • Weekend and holiday work required.
