The City of Manor is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Custodian. This position performs various custodial duties related to the care, cleaning, and minor maintenance of assigned buildings and facilities. Duties include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting; cleaning and sanitizing restroom facilities and fixtures; emptying waste receptacles and removing refuse and debris from City parking lots and paved areas; and operating standard and high-speed buffers and a water extract shampooer with the wand. Duties may also include providing backup coverage for other custodial employees, identifying and performing minor building maintenance, and moving and arranging furniture and equipment for meetings and special functions.
Position Duties
Essential Functions: NOTE: Regular attendance is considered an Essential Function of this position. • Cleans, sweeps, mops, scrubs, cleans floors; vacuums carpet and upholstery. • Dust and polish furniture, woodwork, fixtures, and equipment. • Washes windows, screens, sills, woodwork, doors, desks, walls, and ceilings. • Cleans and disinfects office areas, public meeting areas, and restroom facilities, including fixtures, sinks, urinals, and toilets; replenishes supplies in restrooms. • Use a variety of custodial and building maintenance equipment, supplies, and materials. • Empties, cleans, and disinfects waste receptacles. • Performs related work as required. • Notifies supervisor of materials and supplies needed. • Responsible for standards of health and safety in carrying out assigned duties. • Skill in the operation of a variety of cleaning tools. • Thorough knowledge of proper safety techniques and procedures. • Knowledge of cleaning compounds. • Works independently in the absence of supervision. • Ability to understand and carry out routine oral and written instructions, make routine decisions independently, sustain long periods of light to moderately heavy physical activity, and work harmoniously with others.
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Experience Required: • High School diploma/GED required. • Two (2) years of experience in custodial activity. • Any similar combination of education and experience.
Other Requirements: • Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, as defined by City policy. • Proof of citizenship and/or eligibility to legally work in the United States. • Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test and non-DOT physical. • Must submit and pass a fingerprint background check through the COM Police Department.
