Hybrid Assistant Varsity Volleyball Coach en Newton Public Schools

Summary:

The purpose of this position is to assist head volleyball coach in teaching the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for athletes to realize a degree of individual and team success. It is the express intent of this job description to give sufficient guidance to function. In cases not specifically covered, it shall be assumed that a coach shall exercise common sense and good judgment.  

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

• First Aid, CPR certification, AED
• CORI/SORI
• Has a reputable background in working with youth
• Has previous coaching or playing experience with Volleyball 
• Ability to accept responsibilities outside the team as they relate to the school and community
• Ability to handle multitude of varying and complex issues
• College degree is desired

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities (Not Limited To):

• Will coach the JV-A & JV-B Boys Volleyball team.
• Will instruct athletes in fundamental skills and strategies in line with the objectives of the Head coach 
• Complies with school and MIAA policies and volleyball regulations
• Complies with school and Conference/League policies and regulations
• Has thorough knowledge of the athletic policies and acts to fulfill it in the High School
• Models positive behaviors consistent with the expectations for athletes in the program in and out of the competitive arena.  Especially to issues related to sportsmanship and the alcohol, drug and tobacco rules
• Will instruct and guide students toward positive values, acceptable behaviors, and self-discipline in line with our Mission Statement
• Wears proper attire at coaching events
• Will support other programs and other coaches at Newton North. 
• Communicates daily with the head coach
• Complete the daily assignments give it to him by the head coach
• Develops in each athlete a respect for school property and its care
• Responsible for implementing “other job related duties” as needed
• Consistent and on-time attendance is required

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

Work Environment:

• Much of the work is performed in the volleyball gym.  The noise level in the environment is usually moderate.  The remainder of the work is performed in the school/classrooms.

Physical Requirements:

• This is a position that requires stamina and endurance to be available from the beginning to the end of the school day until the last student leaves the last practice or game in the evening. The Assistant Coach is occasionally required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.  Must have sufficient mobility to navigate within a large school building and on nearby athletic fields and facilities.
