Hybrid Senior Data Scientist en Burns & McDonnell

Position Summary

The Sr. Data Scientist will lead the design, implementation, and governance of the organization’s data and AI platforms. This role will establish enterprise-wide standards for data enablement, ensuring that our AI-driven initiatives are built on reliable, scalable, and well-architected foundations. The position requires deep expertise in data science, data engineering, and solution architecture, with the ability to rapidly prototype solutions that bridge the gap between concept and production.

Primary Responsibilities

• Define and drive strategic architecture for AI and data platforms across the enterprise.
• Develop and implement data enablement frameworks that ensure accessibility, quality, and governance.
• Establish and maintain engineering and architecture standards for data and AI systems.
• Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to align data capabilities with AI-driven business goals.
• Provide architectural oversight for AI agent design, deployment, and lifecycle management.
• Lead the creation of prototypes to validate architectural decisions and demonstrate value quickly.
• Mentor engineering teams in data architecture best practices, ensuring adherence to governance policies.
• Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies relevant to data management, AI, and analytics.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or related field.
• Proven experience in solution architecture for data and AI platforms.
• Strong background in data science with applied experience in machine learning or AI solutions.
• Solid understanding of data engineering concepts, including ETL pipelines, data modeling, and integration patterns.
• Demonstrated ability to rapidly prototype data-driven and AI-enabled solutions.
• Experience establishing technical and data governance standards.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to influence across teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience as a platform or enterprise architect in AI/data environments.
• Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and modern data stack tools.
• Knowledge of data security, compliance, and privacy regulations.

• Experience leading cross-functional teamsin high-impact initiatives.
