PROGRAM SUPERVISOR (Temporary Relief)

Water & Wastewater Operations

The City of Lethbridge Water & Wastewater Operations is hiring a Relief Program Supervisor for a period of 24 months or less. The basic purpose of this position is to organize and distribute the work tasks of the department as well as mentor and be a technical resource to employees with Water and Wastewater Operations.  The major responsibilities of this position include:

 

·               People Management – provide direct supervision

·               Program Delivery – ensure service levels and department goals are met in daily operations

·               Health and Safety Excellence – model safety/wellness leadership

·               Budget and Asset Management – monitor daily expenditures

·               WAGE:                 $45.42/hr. when performing the duties of this role

·               STATUS:                0-40 hours per week, as required           

                                    

Key Accountabilities:

·               Provide direct supervision to program staff, including delegation of work tasks and daily performance coaching

·               Set clear goals and expectations, provide on-the-job supervision, have regular performance conversations, and mentor/coach team members

·               Promote and model a civil and respectful workplace, helping to resolve or determine potential solutions to employee conflicts and escalating unresolved issues to Manager in a timely manner

·               Ensure service levels and department goals are met in daily operations

·               Assign work orders and tasks to the team

·               Ensure compliance with program policies, procedures and standards

·               Provide front-line response to customer/citizen inquiries and complaints

·               Conduct regular safety/wellness toolbox talks with team

·               Take a proactive role at site to ensure that any unsafe conditions are reported and rectified as soon as possible

·               Review and implement incident/accident corrective actions with the team

·               Monitor the work environment to ensure daily compliance with safe work practices and occupational health and safety requirements and regulations

·               Other duties as required to maintain department operations        

    

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

·               High School Diploma supplemented by two or more years of post-secondary education or training related to areas such as plumbing, civil engineering, heavy construction, or water and wastewater operations

·               Experience in various aspects of the construction and maintenance of a Level IV water distribution and wastewater collection system

·               Broad experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, maps and blueprints

·               Experience working within a work order management system

·               Solid understanding of how distribution and collection systems are designed

·               Alberta Environment and Parks Level III Operator certification in water distribution and/or wastewater collection

·               Specific knowledge of the tools and equipment used in the construction and maintenance of the utility

·               Strong understanding of the water and wastewater engineering standards

·               Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

·               Demonstrated conflict management skills and ability to resolve conflicts with effective outcomes

·               Customer focus – demonstrating a commitment to public service

·               Demonstrated teamwork skills – able to work collaboratively with peers and foster a positive work environment

·               Class 5 driver’s license
