Job Description

 

POSITION: PreK Teacher

 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Principal

                       

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

 

EMPLOYMENT TERM: Minimum 200 days annually, pursuant to WV Code §18-5-45; extended employment terms may be established by JCBOE

 

Pursuant to West Virginia Code, if a current JCS employee is selected as a finalist for this position, the employee is not eligible to transfer until the 2026–2027 school year. 

 

 

SALARY: Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-2, in accordance with Jefferson County Teacher Salary Schedule, commensurate with experience and education level

 

EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated by the building principal/immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310, and JCBOE Evaluation Policy

 

JOB SUMMARY: Teach approved preschool curriculum striving to insure that students

meet the appropriate readiness for entrance into kindergarten

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Requires the implementation of the preschool program as outlined in WVDE Policy 2525
  • Responsible for planning and implementing Jefferson County Schools’ Pre K curriculum based on WV Content Standards and Objectives
  • Responsible for implementing appropriate technology strategies
  • Observe, record, and analyze children’s progress toward desired developmental outcomes
  • Use on-going observation and documentation methods to assess children’s progress, growth and development
  • Collaborate with interventionists, share data, identify student needs, and utilize expertise to support targeted interventions.
  • Strong working/communication skills with students, parents and peers
  • Plan for and provide a developmentally appropriate learning environment/opportunities and individualized activities that foster children’s physical, cognitive and socio-emotional development
  • Perform any and all duties incidental to the position
  • Includes supervisory and/or other duties as assigned by the Principal

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Valid teaching certificate licensing the individual to teach in the specializations and grade

levels, pursuant to WV Code §18A-3-2; Criminal background check conducted pursuant

to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate; Meet the qualifications

outlined in WV Code §18A-3-2a.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to reach, stand, walk, lift, grasp, write, talk, hear, see, use technology such as computers and multimedia equipment, and use repetitive motions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently lift and/or move at least 10 pounds of materials. 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff members. Must be able to maintain emotional control under stress and work effectively with others to include demonstrating behavior that reflects established professional responsibilities (i.e., attendance, punctuality, professional dress, and verbal/nonverbal communication); and developing a positive relationship with students, staff, and community. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Most commonly, the educational setting is indoors with outdoor settings for recess and field trip activities. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate (20-60 dB). Exceptions include gymnasiums as well as vocational/ technical laboratories where the noise levels may be moderate to loud (60-90 dB). The employee continuously interacts with colleagues, the public, vendors, school staff, and students.  

 

ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION:

 

As per West Virginia Code §5-10-48, individuals who have retired from a West Virginia school system are not eligible for re-employment in a West Virginia school system until 60 days have passed since their official retirement date. 

 

 

A successful work history and a minimum of three supervisory references required for consideration.

 

Jefferson County Schools is bound by statute to recommend the most qualified applicants for position vacancies.
