The Advance Practice Clinician position reports to the Associate Director for Health Services at the Emerson Wellness Center and will serve as a nurse practitioner, providing clinical care to college students who are experiencing acute illnesses and injuries and chronic health conditions. This is an important role that requires extensive student and medical profession interaction, and the ability to confidently interact and engage with, and advise, a diverse population.ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Provide consultations with students via in-person visits, telehealth visits, and phone consultations.
- Provide care for acute and chronic issues as well as preventative care, including prescribing medications, STI testing and treatment, administering medications, injections, and vaccinations, and offering health-related advice such as smoking cessation, sleep hygiene, managing stress, and dealing with anxiety and depression.
- Oversee the general health compliance of college students, verifying immunization records, ensuring COVID testing and vaccination compliance, and verifying TB testing and compliance, managing and working in vaccination clinics to assist students who are non-compliant.
- Collaborate with other departments as necessary to ensure that students receive holistic healthcare and adequate practical support from all relevant college departments.
- Perform outreach to students, developing educational programs, social media posts, and flyers for students discussing EWC services, Safe Sex Practices, COVID information, and the importance of flu vaccinations and self-care.
- Perform administrative work and maintain records as necessary.
- Provide guidance and training to other staff as required.
- Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS – Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform job.
- Master's Degree in Nursing required
- 3-5 years of previous experience as a Nurse, including experience in phlebotomy and in stitching/suturing wounds required
- Board Certification as a Nurse Practitioner, licensed by the state of MA, required
- Valid Controlled Substance Registration by the Commonwealth of MA required
- Valid DEA license issued by the Federal Drug Agency required
- CPR certification required
- Valid driver's license required

- Knowledge of International Health Systems
- Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication
- Socially perceptive, with the ability to read body cues
- Ability to assist in managing conflict between various parties invested in a student's health
- Good public speaking skills
- Moderate computer skills, and the ability to maintain electronic records
- Ability to engage well with a diverse population and to provide effective education specific to a person's culture, economic status, and comprehension
- Ability to work with patients as part of a multi-disciplinary team

- This position is generally sedentary in nature, movement throughout the area is required from time to time.
- Ability to have continuous oral and written communication with students, medical professionals, co-workers, and supervisors is essential.
- Repetitive movements, occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds, reaching, lifting, stooping, and the ability to read a computer screen, detect color-coding and read fine print will be expected.

STUDENT AFFAIRS ENGAGEMENT
All Student Affairs staff are expected to actively participate in and support major divisional and institutional programs and events, including but not limited to student and staff trainings, move-in, move-out, Commencement, the Student Organization Fair, and other key community-building initiatives. This may include evening and weekend commitments.
