As a key member of the Trust’s senior management team, the Senior Director leads all prospect development functions vital to the fundraising enterprise. This role oversees a team supporting gift officers across the Trust, fostering strategic collaboration to ensure a strong prospect pipeline and actionable donor intelligence. The Senior Director partners with leadership to assess philanthropic capacity, align prospects with fundraising priorities, and implement innovative solutions in a competitive environment. They collaborate with Operations leadership to align information infrastructure with business goals, and serve as HIPAA Compliance Officer for the Trust.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement policies, processes, and analytical tools to manage and optimize the Trust-wide donor portfolio in alignment with Hospital priorities.
- Ensure proper documentation and training in prospect development and knowledge management.
- Partner with executive and fundraising leaders on prospect identification, qualification, and strategy.
- Serve on the Data Governance Council to align operational policies and practices.
- Lead the prospect management program, including pipeline development, wealth screening, portfolio reporting, and strategy sessions.
- Apply industry best practices, data mining, and modeling to drive fundraising strategies.
- Oversee use of the fundraising system for all prospecting activities, including major gifts, planned giving, and proposal tracking.
- Collaborate with hospital departments to leverage data in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Lead and manage staff to achieve the highest performance standards.
- Bachelor’s degree; minimum 10 years in fundraising with significant prospecting experience focused on principal and major gifts.
- At least 10 years’ experience managing staff in a fundraising department of similar size and complexity to the Boston Children’s Hospital Trust.
- Strong knowledge of research methods (human, survey, consumer, financial, analytical/quantitative).
- Proficiency in Blackbaud CRM preferred.
- Ability to manage employees and negotiate with peer executives.
- Skilled in working with diverse constituencies and communicating effectively in writing and verbally, with empathy in sensitive situations.
- Strong organizational skills with accountability and timeliness.
- Knowledge of financial terms and concepts.
