Title: LGBTQ+ Peer Youth Specialist
Location: Bronx, NY
FLSA Classification: Part time, Non-exempt
Role Summary: The LGBTQ+ Peer Youth Specialist will support coalition initiatives by providing authentic peer perspective and helping to ensure programming is relevant and effective for LGBTQ+ youth, particularly BIPOC LGBTQ+ youth.
Primary Job Responsibilities/Duties:
- Support coalition initiatives by coordinating meetings, contributing to community assessments, and assisting with data collection and dissemination.
- Provide authentic peer perspective to ensure programming is culturally responsive and relevant to LGBTQ+ youth, especially BIPOC LGBTQ+ communities.
- Assist in planning and implementing youth-focused outreach activities, events, and programs.
- Help prepare materials, maintain documentation, and support reporting efforts for meetings and coalition activities.
- Contribute to the development and execution of coalition strategies that promote equity, inclusion, and youth empowerment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to travel to multiple NYC sites as needed.
Work Environment / Schedule Requirements:
- May be required to work shifts, including evenings or night tours and/or Saturdays, Sundays and holidays with holiday pay differential.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience working with NYC LGBTQ+ communities; an added plus if with BIPOC LGBTQ+ communities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Must mirror the socio-cultural demographic served by the program
- Must be able to read, speak, write, and understand English for administrative purposes.
- Must pass drug screening to be appointed.
- This position may be subject to a series of investigations before and after appointment.
