Family Engagement Specialist (Non-Rep Assignment)
Housed at the WV Innovation Center
Primary Responsibility: The Family Engagement & Migrant Education Specialist plays a vital role in supporting students and families in the school district by building strong, trusting relationships and helping them access the educational support and resources they need to succeed.
Directly Responsible To: Director of Family and Community Engagement/ Migrant Education Program (MEP).
This position serves a dual role:
Migrant Education Responsibilities
- Identify and recruit eligible migrant students and families through outreach and home visits
- Maintain accurate records and ensure proper documentation
- Build strong relationships with migrant families to support student success
- Assist families with school enrollment and transitions
- Support students and families by connecting them to community services and resources
- Act as a liaison between schools and migrant families, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met
Family Engagement Responsibilities
- Provide language interpretation and translation to assist families and school staff
- Support families and staff during IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and other school events
- Help families with the enrollment process and accessing available school services
- Conduct regular home visits to build trust and offer personalized support
- Lead and participate in weekly Play and Learn groups for families with young children
- Create Family Goal Action Plans and help families follow through with goals
- Organize and lead parent education activities and workshops
- Assist with the preparation of materials and logistics for family nights and school events
- Perform routine clerical and non-instructional duties to support the Family Engagement Department
- Mentor and collaborate with other team members to share strategies and improve services
- Participate in team meetings to support implementation of goal-oriented plans for family success
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) required
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills

- Knowledge of community resources and support systems
- Organized, dependable, and compassionate
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasional weekends

- Proficient computer skills essential
- Flexibility with work hours in order to meet the needs of the Department including early mornings and evenings
- Understand, speak, write, and read in English and Spanish.
- Outgoing, self-driven, and innovating
Preferred Qualification
- Knowledge and/or experience in understanding the needs of families experiencing barriers to educational services.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting (able to lift 50 pounds and assist in lifting over 50 pounds), carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 34% sitting, 33% walking, and 33%
standing. The job is performed in a generally hazard-free environment and in a clean atmosphere.
