The Novato campus is home to four commercial manufacturing facilities. The campus has grown and changed dramatically over the course of the company’s history and is currently home to four commercial products. The organization's requirements have evolved greatly and will continue to do so over the planning horizon. 

The Material Planning and Control Manager will report directly to the Sr. Director of Supply Chain Operations in Novato, CA.  

RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Supply Chain Operations department is responsible for a broad range of responsibilities including site production planning and scheduling, operational readiness planning, warehouse operations, weigh and dispense operations, operational purchasing, inventory management, and ERP recipe management. 

Specifically, under the remit of the Material Planning and Control Manager will be: 

  • Leading and collaborating with cross functional teams comprising Novato Site and Global departments to effectively manage inventory, capacity, and financial optimization.
  • Managing and mitigating risk associated with fluctuations in production plans, supplier reliability, warehouse space constraints, and cost. 
  • Stewardship of raw material purchasing data in ERP for accurate forecasting, execution, and analytics. 
  • Continuously improve inventory operations using lean practices and recommend ways to improve quality of service and maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the warehouse and inventory teams.
  • Ownership of relationship with 3PL’s used within the regional storage network.

This role will require leading and building successful and high performing teams to support Novato operations. Leadership responsibilities include people management of direct reports, support of their development, coaching, appraisals, and performance management. It is expected to develop a high-performing, team-based organization, where colleagues are flexible, multi-skilled and empowered to make decisions that result in safe, agile, and compliant manufacture of Drug Substance.

The Material Planning and Control Manager must foster a close working relationship with multiple departments at a local level, such as Manufacturing, Quality, Scheduling, Warehouse Operations, Procurement, and Finance. 

Principal areas of responsibility: 

  • Oversees raw material inventory control and purchasing operations.  
  • Performs forecasting, spend analyses, financial assessments, material assessments, and historical trend analyses. 
  • Supports Regulatory, Compliance, Quality, and SOX audit requests.  
  • Evaluates supplier performance against established scorecards and participates in supplier business reviews. 
  • Ensures timely receipting of orders and payment to suppliers. 
  • Maintains MRP planning data and safety stock strategy.  
  • Supports Manufacturing with clear communication and collaboration on risk mitigation.  
  • Complies with EHS&S safety guidelines. 
  • Authors, reviews, and improves SOP’s and Work Instructions as required. 
  • Presents and trends defined metrics. 
  • Manages raw material shortage/stock out. 
  • Issues deviations and change requests and works with department managers and/or QA professionals to evaluate, process and close records. 
  • Sets project time frames and priorities based on objectives with effective tracking and management of progress. 

EDUCATION 

  • Required Education: Bachelors in Life Science, Business, Operations Management, or Industrial Engineering required. 
  • Preferred Education: APICS certification and/or supply chain education preferred
  • Other continuing education initiatives are highly desirable (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, industry specific coursework). 

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS 

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the biotech/pharma industry with experience in supply chain, warehouse operations, and/or manufacturing operations. 
  • Strong understanding of ERP/MRP systems and processes (Knowledge of SAP is preferred) 
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally and partner with other functional groups to achieve required business objectives. 
  • Skillful application of KPI’s and metrics to manage business processes and support strong team performance. 
  • Proficient and comfortable working indirectly through others.
