Senior Finance Manager – Risk and Internal Control (Financial Control)
An exciting opportunity to join our Finance team as a Senior Finance Manager – Risk and Internal Control on a permanent basis, based in our Darlington office.
The role
The Senior Finance Manager – Risk and Internal Control will own a variety of Finance risk and internal control reporting deliverables within the Financial Control Centre of Excellence, including oversight and development of Finance’s controls assurance testing strategy, KPI reporting and policy development. You will be the go to person for any technical accounting advice and will proactively collaborate with wider Finance and other business stakeholders to support decision making in line with agreed principles and relevant accounting standards.
This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK.
The person
The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant with extensive experience within a Financial Control process-led environment. You will be a strategic thinker with excellent analytical skills and a deep understanding of financial regulations and compliance. This role will be responsible for overseeing risk management and internal control processes, ensuring the integrity and reliability of financial reporting, and developing robust finance policies. Confidence in implementing new or changes to company law and Finance GAAP and experience of co-ordinating regulatory and statutory reporting and financial controls policy and guidance is a must.
You will demonstrate a risk-based mind-set, ensuring oversight of financial control policy, and development of MI reporting. The ability to take ownership of any issues and discrepancies identified is a must, alongside the ability to meet various deadlines. Previous experience of managing, developing and coaching team members and leading by example will be a distinct advantage.
The successful candidate will have a collaborative approach to working across Finance to embed a risk-based mindset and ensure the culture of continuous improvement is understood and engaged with. You will have the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of stakeholders, ensuring alignment on risk and control matters, and embed a challenge and can-do attitude, fostering ideas for improvement.
Our values of integrity, community and alignment are the guiding principles that influence our behaviour. They help us make decisions and shape our relationships with others. They’re what we stand for. You will actively demonstrate our values, helping to create a safe environment, to place the needs of the community above oneself and, through a culture of ‘fair challenge’, align to the best interests of our members.
