CLASSIFIED POSITION: 5-day, 6.5-hour Attendant, Union Furnace Elementary (Placement with 3rd Grade Student)
Shift Time: 8:45 AM - 3:45 PM
QUALIFICATIONS:
Attendants must be at least 18 years of age and must be “ESEA Highly Qualified” by either having:
An associate degree is preferred, but a high school diploma/GED is acceptable.
Completed at least two years of study (defined as 48 semesters or 72 quarter hours) as verified by a college transcript from an accredited institution of higher education; or
Obtained an associate (or higher) degree from an accredited institution of higher education; or
Must have taken and passed the Praxis exam for Paraprofessionals as approved by the Ohio Department of Education.
Attendants should exhibit the following desirable personal qualities:
Be capable of physically assisting students with special needs as required (positioning, lifting, transferring, restraining, etc.)
Have demonstrated the ability to work effectively under the direction of others.
Have a willingness to assume any responsibilities appropriate for the position.
Support the Mission Statement of the district.
Behave and speak in a professional manner.
Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality, and attendance.
Attend staff and team meetings and training that are required.
Capable of lifting 50 lbs.

Intervention Specialists
JOB GOAL:
The job goal or duties described may vary or be amended to meet the needs of the student. Special education attendants work under the overall supervision of the building principal with direct supervision provided by the intervention specialists. They are employed when required to implement special education or related services for a student and/or to provide direct assistance to a student. Their duties will vary depending upon the age of students served as well as the nature and severity of the student’s disabilities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Attendants will:
Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the classroom teachers.
Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans for the students and monitor their progress.
Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities.
Work with other professionals, such as speech therapists, counselors, occupational and physical therapists.
Assist classroom teachers with maintaining student records.
Support students with emotional or behavioral concerns and assist them in developing appropriate social skills.
Help assist with toileting and hygiene needs of students.
Provide general duties when the student is absent.
Conduct other duties as assigned.
