The TEGNA Benefits Team is looking for an analytical, detail-oriented and employee-experience-centric Senior Benefits Analyst. The Analyst will be responsible for the smooth and successful day-to-day operations of group Health and Welfare benefits plans. Interface with outside providers and consultants to ensure plans are being administered according to plan documents and provisions. The Analyst will also provide excellent customer service, investigate new benefits programs and monitor benefits administration. This role is an exempt, direct hire role, eligible for all companywide benefits.

The ideal candidate will have outstanding customer service and excellent communication skills. Additionally, we are looking for someone who can perform the role with a high level of accuracy and takes pride in delivering high quality work.

Responsibilities: 

  • Administer daily operations of health and welfare plans, including medical, prescription, dental, vision, FSA, disability, life, and voluntary benefits
  • Troubleshoot issues between benefits administration systems and payroll/HRIS platforms
  • Document and maintain administrative procedures for benefits processes
  • Update and maintain benefit-related articles and resources on the internal company site to ensure employees have access to accurate and timely information
  • Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and employee experience
  • Audit benefit enrollments, terminations, and changes to ensure accuracy and compliance (ACA, federal/state mandates)
  • Audit vendor functions to ensure accuracy and service quality
  • Ensure compliance with ACA regulations and other federal/state mandates
  • Support annual HR and regulatory filings, including data collection for audits, RxDC reporting and timely submission of reports, fees, and notices
  • Partner with third-party vendors and consultants to manage service contracts and monitor performance standards
  • Collaborate early and often to provide constant communication to HR Business Partners and other internal constituents (e.g. Labor Relations, Finance, Payroll)
  • Act as liaison with internal TEGNA departments as subject matter expert and key resource for the use and promotion of benefit plans and programs
  • Lead the benefits segment of New Hire Orientation on a rotating weekly basis with the Benefits Analyst
  • Assist with benefit analysis, including evaluation of plan usage, coverage, cost, effectiveness, and competitive trends
  • Develop analytics to evaluate benefit program effectiveness, identify trends, and support strategy and best practices. Proposing changes as necessary
  • Work with outside consultants to benchmark and determine appropriate plan design changes or enhancements. Evaluate and compare existing company benefits with those of other employers
  • Complete benefits surveys and analyze results to inform program improvements
  • Maintain an external focus on best practices, regulatory requirements and the competitive environment
  • Lead the Open Enrollment process, including strategy planning, coordination and communication of open enrollment delivery, education, presentation, system testing/updates, and execution
  • Design and distribute materials for benefits orientation, open enrollment and summary plan descriptions
  • Create communications for employees, including mass populations, as required regarding all benefit programs. Partner closely with the Corporate Communications team
  • Support HR and benefits-related projects

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • 5+ years of benefits experience, preferably with self-funded health plans. Experience with High Deductible Health Plans (HDHP)
  • Analytical and detail oriented, with the ability to locate resources and research and respond to questions timely
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Ability to take initiative and prioritize to effectively manage deadlines
  • Technically savvy with use of current Microsoft Office tools
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills with a strong focus on customer service
  • Ability to identify problems and solve them through innovative solutions and sound judgment
  • Experience working with large employee population (up to 5500 employees) #LI-MS1
