What You Will Do
- Assists veterans and their families in creating a claim, obtaining documentation, and submitting to the Veterans Administration accurately and timely.
- Prepares necessary forms including appeals.
- Advocate on behalf of veterans during hearings or appeals.
- Provides information on other benefit eligibility, and connects veterans and their families to other community resources as well as government and private organizations.
- Provides guidance on navigating the VA system and other veteran-related resources.
- Conduct informational sessions and outreach events to educate veterans about their rights and benefits.
- Provides outreach and education to veteran organizations, community centers, caregiver coalitions, etc. regarding the importance of connecting with veterans benefits as well as the wide range of VNS Health services that can support successful community living.
- Establishes a wide-range of community relationships to generate veteran referrals and admissions.
- Links and facilitates rapid referral and service provision for veterans in need of care and monitors referral process.
- Collaborates with VNS Health internal teams to ensure a positive veteran patient experience.
- Provides education in-services for both internal and external customers.
- Tracks veteran patient data and outreach activity.
- Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement meetings related to improved quality patient care.
- Acts as a VNS Health representative at institutional and community programs and functions.
- Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Certification as a Veteran Service Officer by the Veterans Administration. This position is an accredited representative as prescribed by the Code of Federal Regulations 14.629 (a)(1)(i)(ii), for the purpose of representing claimants before the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in matters pertaining to claims of veterans, widows, and orphans. required
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in related field or the equivalent work experience required
Work Experience:
- Minimum of two years of experience in human services, sales or marketing, preferably in a healthcare setting required
- Knowledge of VA healthcare system and benefits, including knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid preferred
- Exceptional customer service skills required
- Effective oral and written communication and presentation skills required
- Proficiency in personal computer operations including MS Office applications required
- Recognized veteran status with honorable discharge from a US military armed service branch preferred
- Bilingual skills highly desired preferred
- Valid driver's license and insurance may be required, as determined by operational/regional needs preferred
