Mental Health Compliance Director - Consultation Center
University Settlement is seeking an experienced Compliance Officer to oversee regulatory compliance for its Mental Health Department. The Mental Health Department includes a continuum of NYS and DOHMH mental health programs including outpatient mental health services (NYS MHOTRS), Child and Family Treatment and Support Services (CFTSS), Care Coordination, Home Based Crisis Intervention, Prevention Services and Family and Youth Peer Support services. This role is critical in ensuring the organization adheres to all Medicaid and Medicare regulations while maintaining the highest standards of quality and accountability.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with program leadership in the Mental Health and Wellness department to monitor, support, and maintain compliance with Medicaid and Medicare regulations.
- Ensure full adherence to federal and state Medicaid and Medicare requirements.
- Complete the annual risk assessment and compliance work plan, including the collection and provision of relevant regulatory information.
- Conduct internal audits and monitoring activities as outlined in the Compliance Work Plan.
- Oversee compliance for DOHMH-funded programs.
- Develop and implement internal policies, audits, and corrective action plans in partnership with program and executive leadership.
- Prepare compliance reports for the Internal Compliance Committee and the Audit and Compliance Subcommittee of the Board of Directors.
- Translate regulatory guidance into actionable compliance activities and track related data, such as due dates and deliverables.
- Lead root cause analyses and corrective action planning in response to identified non-compliance issues.
- Ensure thorough investigation of all Medicaid-related compliance concerns.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and audit processes.
- Partner with IT and Data Management teams to develop and maintain compliance-related data systems.
- Provide training and coaching to staff on compliance standards, procedures, and regulatory updates.
- Attend program operations meetings and contribute to compliance-related discussions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or executive team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Advanced degree or certification is preferred, specifically in healthcare compliance, or project management
- Minimum 3 years of compliance experience in outpatient mental health (Article 31/MHOTRS required)
- Proven experience with regulatory agencies including OMIG, OMH, and DOHMH
- In-depth knowledge of Medicaid regulations, HIPAA, and state-specific compliance standards
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
- Exceptional communication, documentation, and organizational abilities
- Effective time management and multitasking skills
Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm, 35 hours per week
