WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IN THIS ROLE

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

During the Growing season, the primary function of this position is to assist with overseeing, directing, training and providing guidance to the planting crew. The ideal candidate will have to set work schedules, direct all field operations, harvesting, transportation, and work on equipment maintenance and record keeping. Post harvest the Farm Operations Lead will be monitoring productivity, resolving production issues, and inspecting the equipment in the designated and support plant operations during the off season and support plant operations during the off-season department. The successful candidate will be under the direction of the immediate supervisor and will coordinate daily activities with the assigned workforce, shift and production units.

The Farm Operations Lead will participate in and facilitate tasks in accordance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations as well as implementing all safety regulations, ensuring all quality standards are maintained. 

  • Set harvest/field crew schedules and assignments and complete all related paperwork and complete reports, forms and audits.
  • Ensures all equipment, implements and tools and related safety equipment is functioning properly and takes appropriate corrective action.
  • Monitor the set-up and operation of the diesel-powered equipment.
  • Oversee, direct, train and provide guidance to the harvest operations crew.
  • Drives truck to haul supplies, tools or workers. 
  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, add oil, fuel, fluids or perform minor repairs. 
  • Maintain logs of working hours or of vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations. 
  • Operate or tend equipment used in agricultural production, such as tractors, planters, cultivators, and harvesters
  • Coordinate daily work activities for the department.
  • Assists with monitoring break and lunch schedules for assigned workforce.
  • Alerts maintenance staff, supervisor and manager of all breakdowns and provide updates of equipment status. 
  • Make adjustments as needed to plant equipment to optimize quality and production. 
  • Train new employees regarding proper safety techniques near production equipment. 
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe plant. 
  • Monitors and orders material and resources required to complete assignments in the department. 
  • Ensures that all employees are following GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices). 
  • Assists with moving and transporting material from one department to another.
  • Maintains manual or computerized records such as material inventory, preventative maintenance logs, production reports and is aware of the status of pending items. 
  • Assists with any arrangements of equipment needing to be repaired or assembled during the shift. 
  • Assists with minor adjustments to equipment needed during the shift.
  • Provide support to Plant Leader during the off season to meet business needs as required. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to read, write and communicate as it relates to the job and safety regulations. 
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision. 
  • Ability to follow instructions. 
  • Ability to meet company performance standards for the job. 
  • Perform all job functions safely.
  • Knowledge of techniques and equipment for harvesting food for consumption including food storage/handling techniques.
  • Knowledge of tools, implements, materials, methods and practices of tractor and farm equipment operation and maintenance. 
  • Excellent organizational skills to ensure ability to organize and execute planning methods. 
  • Ability to work the scheduled/assigned times and required overtime for the position.
  • Ability to travel to other farm locations during the off season (Arizona, California, Washington)  


Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; or two to three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Three to five years or related experience
  • Proven, reliable, work history
  • Candidates must have a verifiable history of safe vehicle operation and meet company standards for driving eligibility. This includes maintaining a clean driving record, which will be verified through a background check.
  • Valid Drivers License and clean driving record


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in production facility. 
  • Microsoft Office, Word, internet software, manufacturing software is a plus 
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Environmental exposure –cold/wet conditions (40 ° Fahrenheit or below); will work in ALL facilities (indoor and outdoor) 
  • Material exposure-moving mechanical parts
  • Occasional exposure to environmental factors such as fumes, airborne particles and vibrations
  • Ability to ascend and descend ramps, steps, ladders, stairs using three-point contact
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and/or carry to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for an extended period of time during the work period
  • Ability to use hands and arms to grasp, manipulate, and handle objects in one position or in a repetitive motion for an extended period of time
  • Must be able to work in tight areas that require lifting and bending


1st Shift – 6:00 AM to 4:30PM Overtime and Weekends, may be mandatory based on business needs. Rotating workday/time off schedules may be mandatory depending on department/business needs as well.
