POSITION SUMMARY

The Lynden Christian School Second Chance Thrift Store Manager reports directly to the Director of Finance and Operations of LCS and is responsible for the overall operations, strategic direction, and profitability of the thrift store in support of Lynden Christian School's mission.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1. Operations Management

  • Oversee all daily store operations including opening/closing procedures
  • Establish and maintain store policies and standard operating procedures
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
  • Manage store layout, merchandising, and visual displays to maximize sales
  • Coordinate with LCS administration on operational matters and reporting

2. Inventory and Merchandising

  • Supervise sorting, pricing, and merchandising of all inventory
  • Identify and feature high-value items, collectibles, and trending merchandise
  • Manage inventory rotation and seasonal merchandise storage
  • Maintain organized and full stocked stockroom, donation processing areas and sales floor

3. Donation Development

  • Build relationships with local businesses for regular donation partnerships
  • Develop and manage bulk donation opportunities
  • Oversee donation pickup services
  • Create marketing materials to promote donation programs

4. Financial Management

  • Manage daily cash operations and point-of-sale transactions
  • Maintain accurate records of all revenue and expenses
  • Process daily bank deposits 
  • Monitor and analyze sales data to identify trends and opportunities
  • Develop and manage annual operating budget

5. Staff and Volunteer Leadership

  • Hire, train, and supervise all paid staff members
  • Recruit, train, and schedule volunteers for various store functions
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback
  • Plan and execute volunteer appreciation initiatives

6. Marketing and Community Engagement

  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to increase visibility and sales
  • Manage social media presence and online marketing efforts
  • Plan and execute special sales events and promotions
  • Build community partnerships and networking relationships

7. Customer Service Excellence

  • Ensure exceptional customer service standards are maintained
  • Handle customer concerns, complaints, and special requests
  • Train staff and volunteers in customer service best practices
  • Monitor customer feedback and implement improvements
  • Maintain welcoming and organized store environment

8. Strategic Planning and Development

  • Participate in long-term strategic planning for store growth
  • Research industry trends and best practices
  • Analyze market conditions and customer demographics
  • Collaborate on facility improvements and expansion projects
  • Develop new revenue streams and operational efficiencies

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Committed Christian with strong personal faith
  • Dedicated supporter of Christian education and LCS's mission
  • Minimum 3-5 years retail management or supervisory experience
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Proficiency with point-of-sale systems, inventory management software, and basic computer applications
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while making sound business decisions

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Retail Management, or related field
  • Social media and digital marketing experience
  • Experience with volunteer management

 

GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK CONDITIONS

Primary work is performed within the office setting but also includes work throughout LCS campus. Position requires sitting for long periods of time and hand manipulative skills for word processing and writing. Some bending and stooping with minimal lifting up to 30 pounds. Must be able to hear verbal conversations over the phone and in-person with background noise. Must be able to consistently identify objects and people at a distance and read fine print in various forms.
