- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and an atmosphere that promotes student learning.
- Provide individualized and differentiated educational opportunities and instruction for each student, according to his/her IEP.
- Keep accurate records, tests, reports, etc. as required by Delaware Statutes and policies, Federal Regulations, School Board Policy and IEP requirements to monitor student progress.
- Facilitate community outings and vocational opportunities in the community for
- Collaborate with teachers in the Life Center Career Education Pathway to support all students.
- Establish and maintain a positive, collaborative rapport and communication with students, school personnel and parents.
- Facilitate communication for all students using verbal or augmentative communication means with support from Speech/language Pathologist.
- Collaborate with IEP team members to ensure students are receiving the supports they need to make meaningful progress. IEP members include but are not limited to: Speech/Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist, Adaptive Physical Education Teacher, Physical Therapist
- Differentiate and modify instruction based on the Dynamic Learning Maps to meet individual student needs.
- Support colleagues in differentiating and modifying instruction to meet the learning needs to students with disabilities.
- Use co-teaching models while teaching with general education teachers.
- Collaborate with parents, administrators, and school staff to ensure the implementation of special education services, supports, and accommodations.
- Participate and serve as an integral part of the IEP team.
- Develop standards-based, measurable IEP goals based on data and individual instructional needs.
- Engage in ongoing monitoring of student progress through structured data collection.
- Demonstrate effective classroom management of student behaviors.
- Plan and use classroom time effectively.
- Implement School Board and school based policies and procedures in order to uphold school regulations.
- Work closely with regular education teachers, special education staff and outside resources to assist students with disabilities.
- Integrate technology in instruction.
- Work continuously toward self-improvement through the active pursuit of professional development activities.
- Participate in district and school level committees designed to foster continuing improvement and growth.
- Communicate curriculum and student related information effectively in oral and written form.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal and/or Supervisor of Special Education Services.
- Must be eligible for State of Delaware Certification as an Elementary and Special Education Teacher.
- Must be eligible for State of Delaware certification as a Teacher of Students with Autism or Students with Severe Intellectual Disabilities.
- Knowledge of Delaware State Content Standards, Dynamic Learning Maps, Assessment & Accountability.
- Knowledge of best practices in special education
- Thorough knowledge of IDEA and IEP implementation.
- Fluid and working knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis Practices.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and computer skills.

Life Centered Career Education (LCCE) Pathway Teacher -- 2025-2026
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Special Education Teacher is to design, implement, and assess instruction which is aligned with Delaware content standards and Dynamic Learning Maps, address the needs outlined in students’ IEPs and increase student achievement. The Special Education Teacher shall enforce the State rules and regulations and district policies to ensure the operation of the educational program.

TRAINING
Appoquinimink School District may require you to be trained in Safety-Care or a similar competency-based crisis prevention intervention training program as a condition of your continued employment.
