The Expanded Education department was created in 2022 to support non-degree programs and learning opportunities provided by the institution. Expanded Education (EE) consists of the Preparatory School (NEC Prep), Adult Education (AE), and Summer Programs. Made available to a dynamic variety of musicians spanning every age, ability level, and geographical location around the world, we welcome musicians with interest in classical, jazz, and contemporary musical backgrounds and those wanting to explore music in novel contexts and in cross-disciplinary ways. For the aspiring musician, NEC prepares students with a versatile skill set that reflects our rapidly evolving musical world.

Hours: Saturdays, 8am-1pm and 12pm-5pm for Prep/AE Instrumental Accompanists

Job Summary: Accompanists are needed to play for Prep school students (ages 5-18) for instrumental workshops, recitals, masterclasses and competitions; voice lessons, workshops and recitals, and other voice classes; choruses; and Suzuki classes. Hours vary depending on the specific work an accompanist is hired to do. Highly experienced accompanists can expect to receive work every Saturday for Prep instrumental workshops, either mornings or afternoons or both. Classroom accompanying for Prep Suzuki and choruses are also regular weekly assignments for the year. Occasional Adult Education instrumental and voice workshops and recitals, Saturday afternoons or possibly other days of the week.


Accompanists hired by NEC must exhibit appropriate preparedness, professionalism and attire when working and interacting with students, families, faculty and staff. Accompanists may at times be hired for competitions, auditions, performances, etc. These may take place on or off campus, days and times vary.


Compensation: $44.60/hour


Qualifications: Audition with Accompanist Coordinator required for new applicants. Accompanying experience preferred. Ability to read duo music (instrumental and/or vocal) requiredCollaborative piano repertoire list will be requested by audition date, or shortly thereafter.

Other Information: All Expanded Education employees must complete payroll paperwork (W-4, I-9, etc.) and submit a CORI form through the Human Resources office before beginning work.
