What you will do:
The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations while ensuring strong internal controls, accurate financial reporting, and compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards. This leadership role involves developing and mentoring the accounting team and collaborating across departments to promote continuous improvement and maintain financial integrity throughout the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor the accounting team; promote a collaborative team environment and support professional development through coaching, training, and performance management.
- Prepare timely and accurate reconciliations of general ledger accounts on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, including accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and intangible assets, to ensure the integrity of financial reporting.
- Prepare and record monthly journal entries, ensuring accuracy and alignment with GAAP and internal policies.
- Generate and analyze monthly financial statements, providing insights into financial performance and variances.
- Oversee the preparation and filing of monthly and quarterly state sales tax returns using Avalara, ensuring full compliance with applicable tax regulations across multiple jurisdictions.
- Oversee and manage the monthly and annual inventory reconciliation process; analyze inventory trends and provide financial insights and reporting to support cost control.
- Conduct manufacturing cost studies to understand production costs, including material usage, labor efficiency, overhead allocation, and production yields.
- Manage fixed assets, including additions, disposals, and depreciation schedules, and related journal entries.
- Provide support in the payroll process, including data validation and reconciliation, to help maintain accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Serve as a key contributor to the annual audit processes, including the preparation of schedules, responses to auditor inquiries, and implementation of recommendations.
- Assist in the evaluation, development, and implementation of accounting systems, processes, and internal controls to enhance operational efficiency and accuracy.
- Identify and resolve financial system issues, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data across platforms.
- Collaborate with IT to design and optimize data integration workflows, leveraging an understanding of ERP table structures to ensure reliable data extraction and reporting.
- Perform additional accounting and finance duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or Finance, required.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Manufacturing experience preferred.
- Strong financial analysis skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Capable of performing tasks independently with minimal daily oversight.
- Working knowledge of GAAP and tax laws.
- Experienced with accounting software and ERP systems, preferably NetSuite.
- Experienced in data analysis tools such as Excel and BI tools.
