About the Department

The LCCC position of Adjunct Instructor, Adult Basic Education – is responsible for Adult Education (AE) Transitions classroom instruction and related activities. Most students in this program need to prepare to take the Wyoming High School Equivalency Certificate (HSEC) assessment which is based on the College and Career Readiness section of the Common Core Standards or prepare for the entrance exams to proceed to credit classes at LCCC. Subjects taught are Reading, Writing, Science, Math, and Social Studies at all levels from basic to college-ready. This position is responsible for class development within curriculum and content standards, assessing students, following up on student goal achievement, and monitoring attendance and compiling data for grant accountability reports. Students are also referred to these ‘transitional’ classes by the LC Testing Center and Student Services to ensure that those at-risk students are ‘college ready’ to successfully begin LCCC classes or enter the workforce. The faculty member is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day and/or evening, and is expected to market the program as needed.

Compensation: $23.19/hr.

Position Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: – this position is non-exempt and is eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA.  This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative, other duties may be assigned).

  • Instruction according to the approved College and Career Readiness Standards (CCR) and provide current course syllabus for each course taught to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Post and maintain office hours, teach day and evening courses determined by program needs.
  • Customer Service by completing intake paperwork with new students, communicate and respond to students in a timely manner, and maintain current and accurate student records, grades, and assessments.  
  • Outreach by communicating with core partners multiple times per week, sharing program information with local businesses, and other duties as assigned.

Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional needs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge

  • Administrative – Knowledge of administrative and office procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and workplace terminology.

  • Computers – Knowledge of operation of computers.

  • Customer and Personal Service – Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, and meeting quality standards for services.

  • Office Procedures – Knowledge of office procedures and of spelling, grammar, punctuation and arithmetic.

  • Regulatory Compliance – Knowledge of laws, regulations and standards applicable to the job, specifically FERPA and TABE testing.

Skills

  • Active Learning - Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making.

  • Active Listening - giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

  • Records Maintenance – Accurately prepare and maintain records, files, and reports, including records of materials, supplies, time, and work performed.

  • Time Sharing - The ability to shift back and forth between two or more activities or sources of information.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:
  • While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
  • There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
  • An employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a closely related field, from a regionally accredited institution.
  • One year of experience teaching and curriculum development in adult education, middle school, or high school.
  • Successful teaching experience with English Language Learners and/or adult student populations.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Education or a closely related field, from a regionally accredited institution. 
  • Three years of experience teaching and curriculum development in adult education, middle school, or high school.
  • Certification in Adult Education, Career Pathways, English as a Second Language and/or PowerPath.

Other Qualifications
