POSITION SUMMARY The Assistant Principal is responsible for working directly with the Executive Principal to organize and foster a positive, safe environment that is conducive to best meeting the needs of all students, staff, and parents. This includes:
- Directing and managing academic programming and supervising all academic personnel.
- Providing leadership to ensure high standards of instructional service
- Overseeing compliance with school policies, the success of instructional programs, and the operation of all activities involving students, academic staff, parents, and community members.
- SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIP
The Assistant Principal reports directly to the Principal.
Requirements
Instructional Management
- Monitor instructional and managerial processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes and use findings to take corrective actions.
- Regularly consult the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) and the School Accountability Committee (SAC) about planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of campus education programs.
School Morale
- Provide instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals.
- Foster collegiality and team building among staff members. Encourage their active involvement in the decision-making process.
- Provide for two-way communication with all stakeholders.
- Communicate and promote expectations for high-level performance to staff and students.
- Recognize excellence and achievement.
- Ensure the effective and quick resolution of conflicts.
School Improvement
- Foster a common vision for school improvement with staff.
- Direct planning activities and programs should be put in place with staff to ensure attainment of the school's mission and vision.
- Identify, analyze, and apply research findings (e.g., effective school correlates) to promote school improvement.
- Develop and set annual campus performance objectives with the ILT and SAC.
Personnel Management
- Interview, select, and orient new staff.
- Define expectations for staff performance regarding instructional strategies, classroom management, and communication with the public.
- Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences with staff.
- Make recommendations to the Executive Principal on termination, suspension, or nonrenewal of employees assigned to the campus.
- Work with the ILT and Executive Principal to plan professional development activities.
- Confer with subordinates regarding their professional growth. Work with them to develop and accomplish improvement goals.
Management of Fiscal, Administrative, and Facilities Functions
- Comply with policies and state and federal laws and regulations affecting the schools.
- Work with the Executive Principal to create campus budgets based on documented program needs and other fiscal needs. Keep programs within budget limits. Maintain fiscal control.
- Work with staff and students to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
- Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with the student handbook.
- Conduct conferences about student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
Professional Growth and Development
- Develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment.
- Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior. Serve as a role model for all campus staff.
School and Community Relations
- Work in conjunction with the Executive Principal to communicate and model the school’s mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
- Demonstrate awareness of school and community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
- Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness

DIRECT REPORTS
Supervise and evaluate the performance of staff assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Master's Degree in Education
- Valid Colorado Principal Certification
- Minimum of 3 years of successful classroom teaching experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of successful assistant principal or similar experience.
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Successful experience teaching within a charter school.
- Successful instructional leadership and program development experience.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS
- The Assistant Principal shall be an At-Will employee, meaning that the employee or the school may terminate employment at any time, with or without cause.
- The Assistant Principal shall be evaluated annually by the Principal.
SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION CONTEXT
While Aspen Ridge Prep School uses comparable compensation benchmarks to the St. Vrain Valley School District (SVVSD), it's important to note a key difference in work calendars for this position:
- SVVSD Assistant Principals work a 225-day contract.
- Aspen Ridge Prep Assistant Principals work a 192-day contract.
