Overview:

As a Director, People Analytics at GitHub, you’ll lead a high-impact team of analysts to deliver insights that shape our people strategy. You’ll collaborate across the business to solve complex challenges, scale analytics capabilities, and drive innovation in how we understand and support our evolving workforce and customer base.

In this role, you’ll be both a hands-on contributor and a team leader. You’ll roll up your sleeves to build models, dashboards, and analyses, while also guiding your team to turn data into actionable strategy that drives real business outcomes.

 

You will:

  • Lead as a player/coach: Set vision and priorities while guiding a small team—and rolling up your sleeves to deliver impactful, scalable insights across the Hubber lifecycle in a dynamic, evolving environment.
  • Drive innovation: Champion the use of AI/ML, automation, and modern analytics tools to accelerate insight generation and reduce manual effort.
  • Partner strategically within GitHub and across the Microsoft ecosystem: Collaborate with senior leaders, HR partners, and cross-functional teams to influence decisions and shape strategy.
  • Elevate storytelling: Translate complex data into clear, compelling narratives that drive action and align with business goals.
  • Ensure integrity:Uphold best practices in data privacy, ethics, and governance while promoting a culture of responsible data use.
Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of analytics professionals to deliver high-impact insights.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Drive employee growth, performance management, and career development.

Business & Data Landscape

  • Guide the team in understanding GitHub’s business model, data ecosystem, and data lineage.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance or automate analytics solutions that influence decision-making.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Partner with stakeholders to understand needs, manage change, and deliver tailored solutions.
  • Champion the use of data in shaping exceptional employee and stakeholder experiences.

Reporting & Storytelling

  • Oversee the creation of dashboards, visualizations, and self-service tools that simplify complexity and drive action.
  • Ensure insights are accessible, accurate, and aligned with business priorities.

Advanced Analytics & Data Integration

  • Lead complex analyses and ensure methodological rigor and business relevance.
  • Integrate data from multiple sources and address data quality, access, and integrity issues.

Innovation & Efficiency

  • Promote reusable, scalable analytics solutions and self-service capabilities.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and operational efficiency.

Data Model Evaluation

  • Align data models with business objectives and ensure consistency in usage across teams.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in data modeling and evaluation.

Collaboration & Orchestration

  • Drive cross-functional alignment and adoption of analytics tools and processes.
  • Manage engagements across teams to integrate insights into business priorities.

Data Privacy & Governance

  • Uphold and enforce standards related to data privacy, ethics, and governance.
  • Partner with Legal, Privacy, and Compliance teams to ensure responsible data practices.
Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years experience in HR/People analytics, data analysis and reporting, data science, business intelligence, or business and financial analysis 
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Analytics, Data Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Economics or related field AND 5+ years experience in HR/People analytics, data analysis and reporting, data science, business intelligence, or business and financial analysis
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years hands-on experience with enterprise HRIS (e.g. Workday, BambooHR), data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI) and data analysis languages (e.g. SQL, Python, R) to build scalable, end-to-end solutions.
  • 2+ years people Management experience.
  • 2+ years experience designing and leading a comprehensive People Analytics strategy that covers the full talent lifecycle—from recruiting and workforce metrics to attrition and internal mobility—to support data-driven decisions and workforce planning at scale.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to build and scale analytics functions in fast-paced, high-growth environments.
  • Experience translating data insights into actionable strategies and contributing to the overall business strategy.
  • Proven track record of being a successful and collaborative People Analytics team leader.
  • Experience developing and deploying predictive models and AI-powered solutions to forecast key workforce outcomes.
Compensation Range:The base salary range for this job is USD $96,400.00 - USD $255,700.00 /Yr.

These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual's base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role.GitHub Leadership Principles:
