Title of Job: Director of Annual Giving

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Annual Giving provides strategic leadership for the planning, implementation, and management of a comprehensive annual giving program that engages alumni, parents, students and friends in philanthropic support of Harvey Mudd College. This position plays a critical role in increasing both participation and total giving to the Annual Fund, especially from leadership-level donors ($1,000+), and serves as a key contributor to the College’s broader fundraising and campaign priorities. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Constituent Engagement and Annual Giving, the Director manages a team responsible for direct mail, digital and social media appeals, volunteer engagement, giving days and class reunions, and maintains a personal portfolio of leadership annual giving prospects. The Director works collaboratively across the Advancement team and the campus community to inspire sustained support for the College and its mission. Some evenings, weekends and travel commitments will be required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Annual Fund Strategy and Execution
• Lead the design and execution of a multi-channel annual giving strategy to increase participation and dollars raised, especially among leadership-level donors.
• Develop, manage, and assess comprehensive solicitation plans across direct mail, email, social media, and peer-to-peer channels.
• Oversee the development and implementation of digital campaigns, giving days and class-based appeals, in partnership with Advancement Communications.
• Establish and track annual goals, analyze giving trends and use data to evaluate campaign effectiveness and inform strategy.
• Promote the impact of annual giving as a vital part of the College’s success and sustainability.
• Partner with colleagues across Advancement to integrate annual giving with overall fundraising goals and prospect strategy.
• Foster a sense of community and shared purpose among donors, volunteers, and staff.

Portfolio Management and Leadership Giving
• Manage a personal portfolio of approximately 50 leadership annual giving prospects.
• Cultivate, solicit, and steward these donors through personalized strategies, working closely with major gift officers to ensure alignment with broader philanthropic goals.
• Develop and implement strategies to upgrade annual donors into the leadership giving pipeline.
• Engage parent prospects in a leadership annual giving society as a strategic entry point to major gift cultivation.

Volunteer Engagement and Reunion Giving
• Serve as staff liaison to the Alumni Association Board of Governors’ Annual Fund Committee and provide strategic support to reunion giving volunteers.
• Recruit, train and support volunteers to build and sustain a peer-to-peer fundraising culture.
• Collaborate with the Alumni and Family Engagement team on milestone reunion efforts, especially for the 25th and 50th reunions.

Culture of Philanthropy
• As a member of OCA, support OCA's objective to cultivate and sustain a robust culture of philanthropy that reflects belief and confidence in HMC’s leadership and mission. Reinforce that every gift supports people and programs across campus, inspiring shared pride and a collective commitment to the College’s future. Promote a sense of hospitality, giving and generosity, ensuring that individuals understand the vital role of philanthropy in contributing to the College’s success.

Campus Collaboration:
• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with key offices and partners across campus as necessary.
Travel
• Travel as needed to meet with donors and volunteers and to represent the College at events locally, regionally, and nationally.

Administration and Reporting:
• Report to the Assistant Vice President for Constituent Engagement and Annual Giving.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and evolving needs of the College.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Three to five years of related fundraising experience in higher education or a comparable nonprofit organization.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s degree preferred.
• Experience with successful annual fundraising campaigns as part of a comprehensive campaign.
• Ability to think creatively, critically, and strategically in planning, executing, and evaluating programs and events.
• Proven ability to leverage technology to streamline work and improve effectiveness.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities effectively.
• High ethical standards, professionalism and discretion in handling confidential information.
• Experience with staff and/or volunteer management and the ability to supervise, develop and mentor direct reports.
• Flexibility and willingness to travel to support engagement efforts and institutional goals.

Remote Work Eligibility:
All staff positions, regardless of remote work eligibility, require an initial 30-calendar-day on- campus work period. Based on an evaluation by the Area Leadership Group (supervisor, area leader and area Cabinet member) and HR, this position is classified as Category B as defined in the College’s Remote Work Policy, with occasional ad-hoc remote work flexibility (as needed).

Upon approval by the Area Leadership Group and HR, this position may work up to 2 remote work day(s) per week during the academic year and up to 2 remote work day(s) during the non- academic year. Please note these days may vary depending on departmental and College needs. Additionally, remote work is subject to the College’s remote work policy. The College reserves the right to revoke or modify a remote work arrangement for any staff, at any time and for any reason as articulated in the College’s remote work policy. Standard working hours for this position will generally be from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, though these hours may vary depending on departmental and College needs.

All remote work arrangements, including ad-hoc remote work, must be approved by the direct supervisor, area Cabinet member and Human Resources, and are subject to periodic review based on institutional needs. These arrangements are neither guaranteed nor considered entitlements and may change due to factors such as employee performance, evolving business
needs, or changes to the position.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the staff member is regularly required to sit; stand, use hands and fingers and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The individual must regularly lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Hours:
Regular office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. However, days and hours may vary due to the needs of the department or the College.

Classification:
This is an exempt, full-time, regular, benefits eligible, position.

Salary:
$90,000.00 -$95,000.00 per year.

Reports To:
Reports to the Assistant Vice President for Constituent Engagement and Annual Giving.
