The Senior Practice Innovation Engineer is an exempt position that serves as the technical engine behind the firm’s innovation function. This role is instrumental in building out compelling, proprietary workflows and use cases that reflect the firm’s unique posture in the market. By translating legal insight and institutional knowledge into tailored, tech-enabled solutions, this position drives forward initiatives that cannot be lifted off the shelf. The Engineer collaborates with product owners, developers, and stakeholders to design and implement scalable, secure workflows using low-code and commercial platforms, while also staying ahead of emerging technologies to ensure continued innovation momentum.

Essential Duties:

  • Lead the technical buildout of legal tech pilots and production-ready solutions across practice areas.

  • Collaborate with innovation stakeholders and product owners to convert business requirements into well-structured technical designs.

  • Develop low-code workflows, work with internal developers and vendors to integrate APIs, and manage configurations across platforms such as M635 (including Copilot), leading legal AI platforms, NetDocuments, and others.

  • Act as the technical liaison between vendors, internal developers, and business teams.

  • Provide architecture guidance and hands-on implementation for key tools and systems.

  • Maintain technical documentation and contribute to knowledge transfer and training.

  • Stay current with emerging technology trends and proactively monitor the LegalTech space.

  • Support continuous improvement of attorney- and client-facing workflows through performance tuning and process optimization.

Experience/Knowledge:

  • 5+ years of experience in legal tech implementation, innovation engineering, or solution architecture.

  • Strong understanding of legal practice areas, attorney needs, and the business of law.

  • Deep hands-on experience with low-code platforms (e.g., Power Platform), data integrations and workflow design.

  • Familiarity and experience utilizing vendor-provided APIs and working with developers to utilize them.

  • Knowledge of SQL server and Linux environments is a plus.

Skills:

  • Excellent problem-solving and delivery orientation.

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams within the IT department (Database engineers, developers, etc.).

  • Ability to own complex implementations and drive outcomes independently.

  • Strong communicator able to work across technical and non-technical teams.

  • Experience mentoring or guiding other engineers or analysts is a plus.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in business, technology, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience in a legal technology or innovation-related role will be considered.

Reporting Relationship:

The Senior Practice Innovation Engineer reports directly to the Director of Practice Innovation.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machines, such as a copier, scanner, and printer.

  • Constant communication with attorneys, clients, and firm staff is required.

Working Conditions:

  • Office environment.

  • Occasional extended hours beyond the normal schedule may be required to meet firm or client needs.
