About this role

Part of GiveDirectly’s #1 Goal this year is to use ambitious crisis responses to generate interest in cash. We envision a future in which cash is the fastest, most effective, and most dignified default for global crisis response, and GiveDirectly is as widely known as one of the top humanitarian response organizations in the world.

As International Rapid Response (IRR) Fundraising Manager, you will own and support fundraising for our global crisis response efforts from governments, philanthropic foundations and corporations as well as individual high net worth funders. You will develop and maintain a pipeline of funding opportunities; manage the completion of concept notes and full proposals; and manage major grants & gifts and related reporting for new and recurring partners. You will sit within the Partnerships Team, collaborating closely with the Philanthropy, Humanitarian and IRR product teams in particular.

This is the role for you if you have a strong drive to take ownership, a strong verbal and written communicator, solutions-oriented, and if you thrive when working at the nexus of several fast-moving teams. Given GiveDirectly’s tech-forward, evidence-driven approach, a love of data analytics, and an ability to present complex information clearly for a variety of audiences would be an asset.

Reports to:

Level: Director, Partnerships

Location: Remote

Travel Requirement: Must be able to travel ~1–2 times per year to one of our countries of operation for team retreats, donor field visits, or other events.

Responsibilities include:

Fundraising Strategy & Donor Acquisition

  • Identify and qualify new funding prospects - including bilateral and multilateral donors, philanthropic foundations, corporates and individual donors - aligned with our rapid response work.
  • Analyze donor behavior and market trends to prioritize high-ROI opportunities and create lead lists of prospective donors for high likelihood emergency response geographies.
  • Build and execute against creative strategies to reach the highest-value funders and partners in the short, medium and long-term.
  • Identify and communicate market changes and emerging opportunities to inform the rapid response product roadmap.

As needed: collaborate with peer organisations to pursue joint funding opportunities.

Writing & Donor Communications:

  • Draft and iterate on high-quality donor materials including concept notes, reports, pitch decks, and emails,  including for pre-commitments to future response and funding immediately after a response activation.
  • Translate complex programmatic information into compelling, accessible narratives for different audiences
  • Provide strategic briefings informed by donor prospecting and pipeline analysis for senior leadership ahead of key meetings

Donor Stewardship and Conversion

  • Prepare clear, timely and highly compelling reports that demonstrate impact and build donor trust.
  • Maintain up-to-date engagement records, calendars, and reporting via Salesforce and internal trackers
  • Work closely with colleagues in the partnerships and philanthropy teams to convert new donors to other Africa programming.

We’re looking for candidates who:

  • Are tenacious problem solvers who get things done
  • Bring excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially for high-stakes and external-facing materials, with a continuous desire to improve those skills
  • Are strong project managers and ruthless prioritizers, comfortable self-structuring workstreams across multiple priorities and stakeholders
  • Thrive in fast-paced environments with ambiguous problems and proactively identify areas for improvement and innovation
  • Are energized by GiveDirectly’s mission and the opportunity to catalyze step-change organizational growth and impact for recipients
  • Are equally comfortable navigating relationships and working directly with senior leaders and executive assistants
  • Have 4+ years of experience in a fast-paced, high-performance environment (e.g., consulting, start-up, nonprofit), including demonstrated success in humanitarian fundraising.
  • Are strongly aligned with our values, and who actively demonstrate our core competencies: emotional intelligence, problem solving, project management, follow-through, and fostering inclusivity. We welcome and strongly encourage applications from candidates who have personal or professional experience in the low-income and/or historically marginalized communities that we serve.
  • Bonus: experience with Canva or other design tools; experience with Salesforce or similar CRM systems; experience in philanthropy or international development
