We are searching for an experienced Story Telling styled Activity Documentation at our Indonesia facility.BackgroundIndonesia’s Vision 2045 sets the goal for Indonesia to transition from a resource-based economy towards an advanced service, technology, and knowledge-based economy by the centenary of its independence (2045). The 2025-2045 National Long Term Development Plan emphasises the urgency of Indonesia’s human resource development to fully realise 2045 goals.Faced however with persistent low student performance that is emblematic of a learning crisis, significant improvement in student learning will be required to reach Indonesia’s 2045 goals. Government of Indonesia (GoI) has started an ambitious program of education reforms. Successive education ministers have set out to modernise the education system through reforming the national curriculum and teaching and assessment approaches, to produce citizens with strong foundational skills, open minds, and inclusive values.Australia is a long-term supporter of the Indonesian basic education sector, with continuous investments supporting education quality improvements for the past two decades, including through the INOVASI program (Phase 1 2016-2020; Phase 2 2020-2023) that focused on supporting acquisition of literacy and numeracy foundational skills in early grades classrooms; exploring local problems and solutions; and generating evidence to inform government policy development and practices.This third phase of INOVASI (2024-2027) builds upon the existing program’s approach and lessons learned and takes the focus on the development of foundational skills through to the end of the primary grades. Phase 3 will engage with priority issues of Australia’s development policy: gender equality, effective inclusion of children with a disability, responses to the climate change challenge in education. It will focus on the challenge of policy implementation and the gaps that exist between national policies and practices at district and school levels and use the well attested-success of INOVASI’s local problem-based approach to continuously support policy development for effective fit between policy and implementation context.INOVASI Phase 3 is implemented in 25 districts and cities across Indonesia, in the provinces of West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, North Kalimantan, East Java, West Java, and Maluku. The program also works in Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN)The Program is managed by Palladium on behalf of the Government of Australia through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).INOVASI has been collaborating with both the government and non-government institutions in supporting the development of community reading centres (TBM; Taman Baca Masyarakat) to improve children’s literacy skills, among others in North Kalimantan. In Malinau district, an association called as Ikatan Keluarga Baca Malinau (IKBM) has been further established by the literacy activists to boost the reading culture. Since then, many children who previously could not read were then able to read. The collaboration between TBM, village library, and schools has continued to strengthen, especially since it received support from Village Funds.To promote literacy and document impactful activities of TBM, INOVASI seeks to enhance the capacity of literacy activists who work for the TBMs. INOVASI aim to engage a consultant to provide training and mentoring to literacy activists, equipping them with skills to document the result of their work in an engaging storytelling format. This will enable activists to effectively communicate their achievements, challenges, and the transformative stories emerging from their activities.The engagement also aims to document TBM’s accomplishments in a compelling story, which will serve as an inspiring resource for stakeholders, policymakers, and the public. These good practices could inspire collective action between broader education ecosystem actors in addressing problems related to the foundational skills.Objective of the AssignmentThe primary objective is to train and support literacy activists in developing storytelling skills to document the result of their activities. This approach should enhance the quality, engagement, and reach of their writings, ultimately allowing INOVASI to showcase grassroots efforts and impacts from first hand sources.Another objective is to research, draft, and finalize a compelling story that effectively captures the challenges and impact of the TBM’s initiative. This narrative will highlight real-life examples, data, and testimonials from beneficiaries to illustrate the literacy related achievement and challenges in the remote areas.Similar assignment could also be done on other topics as required by INOVASI, such as on the implementation high quality teaching practices: diagnostic assessment, formative assessment, differentiated teaching, safe learning environment, and provision of reasonable accommodation for children with disabilities.Scope of Work and Deliverables

Scope Of Work

• Conduct a Needs Assessment: Understand the current writing skills, knowledge gaps, and challenges faced by literacy activists in writing.
• Design Training Materials: Develop a training module, including guidelines and practical exercises focused on storytelling techniques relevant to the activity documentation.
• Provide Training Sessions: Lead interactive training sessions for literacy activists on storytelling principles, such as elements, resources and emotional engagement.
• Facilitate Practical Exercises: Guide participants in drafting their own stories based on real-life examples from their literacy activities in the community reading centres.
• Provide Support and Feedback: Offer one-on-one or group feedback sessions on participants' drafts to refine their storytelling skills over a specified period.
• Edit the participants’ drafts, select relevant illustration, and lay out for further publication.

Deliverables

• Result of the needs assessment: Data on the problem and needs regarding participants’ writing skills.
• Training Module: A structured outline with session plans, including key concepts and exercises.
• Training Sessions: Facilitate training workshops in-person or virtual as required.
• Mentoring and Feedback: Review the writing draft and provide feedback, both individual and general.
• Softcopy of the compiled storytelling articles that have been edited and illustrated with photos.

• Monitoring: Reviewing existing reports, data, and conducting interviews with key stakeholders.
• Story Development: Creating an outline that structures the story into themes such as goals, challenges, successes, and impact on individuals and communities.
• Writing: Drafting a narrative that is clear, engaging, and aligned with the tone and objectives of TBM.
• Feedback and Revisions: Submitting drafts for review and incorporating feedback.
• Final Submission: Providing a polished, final version of the selected stories.

Deliverables

• Initial Outline: An outline of the story structure and key points.
• Draft Success Story: A complete draft
• Final Success Story: A final, proofread version of the success story incorporating feedback
• Supplementary Material: Suggested photos, captions, and other visuals to complement the story.

Consultant Qualifications

• Proven experience in storytelling or journalism, preferably with a background in writing for development sectors or policy documentation
• Proven experience in communications training, preferably with community-based organizations.
• Excellent facilitation skills and the ability to communicate complex concepts in a clear, simple, engaging manner.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven experience in proofreading, editing, and finalizing communication products
