As a MySQL Database Administrator, you will play a crucial role in managing and optimizing MySQL environments both on-premise and within AWS. Your responsibilities will encompass the full lifecycle of MySQL databases, including architecture design, installation, configuration, and performance tuning. You will ensure high availability and reliability of MySQL clusters by performing routine maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting. Additionally, you will collaborate with service consumers to optimize database design and queries, manage replication and monitoring using tools like Percona Monitoring, and execute automation scripts to streamline operations.

In this role, you will serve as a subject matter expert for MySQL, providing support and resolving issues related to service and performance. You will participate in on-call rotations and handle administrative tasks including user management, security adjustments, backup/recovery, and service ticket resolution. Your proactive communication with teammates, service consumers, and management will be key to ensuring successful operations and meeting uptime SLAs of 99.99% or greater.

Responsibilities:

• Contribute to building architecture and lifecycle models and strategies for on-premise and AWS MySQL environments
• Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain/administer MySQL clusters
• Work with service consumers to coordinate periodic DB management operations and upgrades
• Provide recommendations and execute planned adjustments for optimizing performance on all MySQL database instances
• Manage monitoring of the MySQL footprint using Percona Monitoring
• Manage replication administration and monitoring for the MySQL footprint
• Act as subject matter expert for troubleshooting and resolving MySQL service and performance issues
• Perform on call rotations, serving as MySQL SME and initial contact for other DB platforms
• Perform administrative tasks in the MySQL environment including but not limited to user administration, permissions, schema and instance creation, security adjustments, storage administration, backup/recovery, and service tickets
• Collaborate with service consumers to optimize database design and queries
• Create basic automation scripts (bash, perl, python)
• Jenkins and GitHub experience is a plus
• Additional responsibilities as assigned by Manager
• Some travel may be required
