To strengthen our team, we are looking for an R&D Scientist (m/f/d) to develop novel automated electrophoresis instruments and assays within the Cell and Biomolecular Analysis Division, located in Waldbronn, Germany.
We develop differentiated analytical instruments and consumables that are aligned with the Division’s strategic business goals. The R&D scientist will generate new concepts and turn the concepts into innovative products for the analysis of DNA, RNA, and proteins. This person will work with engineers and scientists within the global R&D organization to drive projects forward. This person will also work closely with colleagues from other functions including marketing, manufacturing, and quality as a member of cross-functional project teams to develop new products according to Agilent’s product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
- Initiates the design and development of new products and solutions for Agilent’s automated electrophoresis platforms, collaborating with the development team to verify and validate the performance of instrumentation, software, and assays
- Oversees equipment maintenance and calibration activities and manages laboratory PC infrastructure
- Prepares, reviews, and maintains project documentation, including test plans, reports, and protocols, ensuring compliance with Agilent’s Product Lifecycle standards
- Works closely with cross-functional teams across global organizations such as marketing, quality, product support, and manufacturing
- Keeps abreast of emerging technology trends, proposing innovative concepts for research and development, and generating proof-of-concept data to demonstrate feasibility
- Presents research findings and testing results to project and management teams, publishes and presents at internal and external technical forums, and files patents when necessary
- Develops approaches to assigned projects and solves a broad range of scientific problems with varying scopes and complexity
Qualifications

Required:
- Ph.D., M.Sc., or M.Eng. in Analytical Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, or a closely related field
- A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation in a research or development environment
- Strong command of analytical workflows, methods, and techniques, with a focus on biomolecular analysis and electrophoresis
- A demonstrated ability to tackle complex technical challenges, with a strong drive for finding innovative solutions
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills (in English), with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
- Strong organizational skills with a proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality results under deadlines
Strong Plus:
- Possesses in-depth knowledge of gel separation media, optimization techniques, and over 3 years of hands-on electrophoresis experience, including capillary electrophoresis
- Familiar with biopharmaceutical workflows involving biomolecular separation and analysis, with expertise in DNA and RNA separation using both traditional and advanced methods
- Experienced in building, customizing, and optimizing electrophoresis instrumentation, and proficient in operating and troubleshooting Agilent’s automated systems
- Skilled in fluorescence principles and dye use for nucleic acid and protein detection
- Adept at using SAP for data management and maintaining calibration documentation in compliance with regulatory standards
- Demonstrates strong theoretical understanding combined with practical expertise across all areas

This job has a full time weekly schedule.Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location.
