Summary of Primary Functions:
This position is responsible for working in concert with the Chief Executive Officer to oversee all whole good equipment and attachments of Dobbs Equipment (the “Company”) and ensure proper reporting policies, goals, objectives, and procedures are in place to report accurate and timely financial results from whole goods sales and purchases. This position will also work in concert with the executive team of Dobbs Equipment to establish proper inventory metrics, reports, stocking levels, and policies necessary to optimize the financial results of whole goods inventory. More specifically, but not limited to, this position will also be responsible for the oversight and financial performance of the rental fleet of the Company.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee all new machine and attachment purchases and ordering, according to required specifications.
- Oversee the used equipment department including responsibility for used equipment inventory stock levels, equipment condition, and financial performance.
- Oversee Company rental strategy, including but not limited to the dealer owned rental fleet and customer rental purchase contracts (RPO).
- Develop and manage rental operating metrics including utilization, rental repair and maintenance, fleet age and rental rates to optimize return on investment of inventory assets.
- Ensure attachment stocking levels are accurate and maintained.
- Responsible for establishing accurate daily inventory reporting, including but not limited to processes and procedures with moving inventory amongst customers and branches.
- Monitor and drive key inventory metrics including inventory turns, months of supply, inventory aging, etc.
- Oversee and maintain accurate and timely on hold processes for Company.
- Oversee all equipment and attachment inventory audits, along with enforcement of policies and procedures regarding inventory controls.
- Ensure proper rental check IN/OUT procedures are being followed at the branch level.
- Establish consistent inventory control standard operating procedures for Company and ensure compliance Companywide.
- Review rental, demo, loaner and hold requests for equipment as needed to facilitate the best use of company inventory/rental fleet equipment.
- Oversight of transport costs and coordination of equipment as needed.
- Assists with billing responsibilities, as needed.
- Manage aged inventory metrics by category with identification and acceleration of the sale of aged inventory, as needed.
- Oversee rental machine and attachment depreciation, including ongoing evaluation of appraisal valuation of inventory assets.
- Prepares daily inventory queries and financial reports for executive team.
- Prepares annual business plans related to inventory and rental with OEM’s.
- Assists GMs with training Branch Administrators, Equipment Coordinators, and Yard Specialists in rental policies, procedures, and processes.
- Establish and implement best in class inventory control policies and procedures for Company.
- Plans, coordinates, schedules, and controls the rental activities to achieve the budgeted margins, income, and expense goals.
Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Management experience.
- Experience in a dealership environment similar to Dobbs (John Deere preferred).
- Experience in construction equipment and/or roadbuilding industry.
- Inventory / Rental / Sales experience.
- Customer Service experience.
- Strategic level leadership experience is a plus.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Dynamics, Word, and Outlook.
Education, Skill, and/or Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 10+ years of experience in management and industry
- Management, organization, and communication skills must be highly developed.
- The ability to multi-task and prioritize are paramount.
Language Skills:
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively with Executive Management, various OEM partners, as well as entry level personnel is required.
- Ability to make decisions which will have significant impact of strategic management of company’s inventory assets.
- Ability to write reports and business correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Finance & Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to compute, analyze, and interpret financial figures associated with the Company’s rental and inventory strategy.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and statistics.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
