This position assists in the provision of legal services to the Borough Assembly, the Borough Manager, and all Borough departments, as well as assistance to the Borough Attorney.
Work is performed and duties are carried out in accordance with established policies, procedures, and Borough core values: Accountability, Customer Focus, Dedication, Integrity, Responsiveness and Teamwork.
This is a non-bargaining unit executive position.
T1 - T4 - DOE
Graduation from law school.
Two years of experience practicing law.
Current membership in the State of Alaska Bar Association, or ability to obtain membership by reciprocity within six (6) months of hire.
Possession of, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire, a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Alaska for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check.
Completion of Incident Command System (ICS) courses, ICS 100 and IS 700 within ninety days of hire and ICS 200 and IS 800 within one (1) year of hire.
Individuals who do not possess the minimum qualification listed above may be considered and/or hired at the established training rate.
Knowledge of local, state and federal law.
Knowledge of legal research principles.
Knowledge of civil litigation and liability claims.
Knowledge of relevant federal, state, and Borough laws, regulations, and ordinances.
Knowledge of the rules of courtroom procedure and the rules of evidence.
Knowledge of departmental functions, programs, and services.
Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
Knowledge of local, state, and federal occupational safety and health regulations applicable to area of responsibility.
Skill in comprehending complex issues and in explaining such issues in understandable terms.
Skill in producing persuasive legal arguments.
Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
Skill in oral and written communication.
