GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The intent of this description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees on this job. Under the routine supervision of the Water Distribution Crew Leader, performs general maintenance on water distribution system including: repairing and/or installing mains, services and meter settings. Requires some judgment in applying well-established procedures and methods performing routine maintenance of equipment and water distribution systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc, plus 2 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.
CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS
Ability to use common sense understanding in order to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few known variables in situations of a routine nature.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Knowledge and Abilities:
High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Mechanical aptitude necessary with the ability to operate a variety of hand-power tools and heavy equipment. Must be in good physical condition and have a valid driver's license. First-Aid/CPR certification required. Knowledge of cutting and welding, and basic knowledge of water distribution mechanics. Respirator release required. State Certification in Class IV Water Distribution desired.
Experience:
One to two years experience in heavy manual labor. One to two years experience in pipefitting and working with tools and equipment.
