The Michigan Milk Producers Association is looking for an experienced Lead Logistics Coordinator to join our team, in our Novi, MI Headquarters. As the Lead Logistics Coordinator, you will be responsible to provide full service logistical support in the scheduling and transportation of contracted raw milk deliveries and pasteurized product to manufacturing customers and supervise one direct report in the transportation department.
About Us:
The Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA) – established in 1916 – is a dairy farmer-owned and operated milk marketing cooperative and dairy processor. As the 10th largest dairy cooperative in the U.S., MMPA serves dairy farmers throughout Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Indiana, employing approximately 625 people in four states. In addition to a cheese plant in Indiana called the Middlebury Cheese Company, and a dairy product plant in Ohio called Superior Dairy, MMPA operates two SQF Level 3 dairy ingredient plants in Michigan. Products made at MMPA’s plants include fluid milk, cheese, ultra-filtered milk, ice cream, butter, nonfat dry milk, cream, and condensed skim milk.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the daily dispatch and hauler schedule with assigned delivery times
- Provide after hour support for hauler, plant and customer issues. This includes weekend and holiday call coverage on a rotational basis.
- Manage the hauler board and hauler daily schedule notification
- Customer service (internal and external customers)
- Maintain hauler and carrier lists
- Optimize hauling and freight expenses
- Balance information with dairies
- Data input for detention times, invoices, component calculations, daily delivery, scheduling and sales into ERP system.
- Confirm advance and month end check out reports with dairy customers
- Maintain a summary of milk receipts and update data used for uniform receiving credit
- Meet with haulers to discuss concerns and report to management
- Assigning haulers to sales in the ERP system
- Maintaining the transportation module in ERP
- Monitor product load out at MMPA plants and receiving at customer locations
- Manage the customer receiving relationship on a timed schedule to facilitate timely loading and unloading of trucks.
- Ensure compliance with customer processes and procedures and implement corrective actions, as needed
- Manage current transportation contracts to ensure contract compliance and customer service
- Prepare a summary of sales to out of state markets, cancelation fees, and supplemental sales.
This role is also cross trained in:
- Maintain and oversee contact with customers, haulers and other MMPA employees on the status of member raw milk to be delivered that day or days ahead. Maintain and oversee accurate, up to date records of milk delivery schedules using automated and manual methods.
- Coordinate joint balancing arrangements
- Reallocate deliveries upon request if market conditions allow
- Monitor haulers’ weight and butterfat shrinkages to achieve compliance with the shrinkage provisions of supply agreement.
- Prepare monthly reports for reimbursement of marketing expenses related to pool hauling and uniform receiving credits.
- Prepare hauler communications and schedule hauler meetings as needed.
- Monitor producer pool qualification percentage
- Maintain database pertaining to hauling cost, route center points, mileage to dairies, and hauler deliveries in on-line dispatch system
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics / Supply Chain with minimum one year of relevant experience.
- Minimum requirements: Logistics / Supply Chain with minimum one year of relevant experience, or a minimum of three years relevant dispatch experience preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
