Job Summary:

Reporting directly to the Campus Safety Lieutenant, the Campus Safety Supervisor (Sergeant) plays a key role in ensuring a safe and secure environment for the Regis University community, including students, faculty, staff, guests, and visitors. Responsible for overseeing and supervising Campus Safety Officers (CSOs), the Supervisor manages shift staffing, monitors activities, approves reports, and provides guidance in daily operations. Additionally, they lead responses during critical incidents, conduct evaluations, enforce disciplinary actions (with Assistant Director approval), and foster morale and motivation among staff. Campus Safety employees are dedicated to maintaining an inclusive and respectful work environment that supports engagement with diverse individuals and communities.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Patrol buildings and grounds of the University campus, by vehicle, bicycle, or on foot, on a continuous, daily basis to identify and assess situations that may impact the safety and security of the University community.
  • Supervise 1-4 Campus Safety Officers assigned to a shift. Approves timecards for Campus Safety Officers on the shift that they supervise and may approve timecards for any CSO when necessary.
  • Act as an incident commander in response to campus emergencies, reports of crimes, and incidents including medical/mental health emergencies, natural disasters, trespassing, intrusion alarms, burglaries, robberies thefts, drug and alcohol incidents, fire alarms, energy management alarms, assaults, threats of violence, disturbances, and emergency facilities problems.
  • Enforce all University policies, student conduct regulations, and appropriate Federal, State, and local laws as necessary to ensure compliance by the Regis community and its visitors. Investigate incidents on campus as needed to provide for immediate safety needs, and proper handling of the incident and its aftermath as appropriate.
  • Prepare clear and thorough written incident reports as necessary or appropriate. Give testimony at judicial hearings when requested.
  • Assist individuals on campus, including assistance with stranded/locked vehicles, escorting individuals from buildings and to vehicles and providing safety and security information to the campus community.
  • Provide security services for special events, such as gate control, crowd control, parking control, locking and unlocking rooms for meetings, etc.
  • Participate in staff training activities, workshops and departmental meetings as needed in order to maintain current knowledge and certification of essential campus safety practices and procedures.
  • Maintain regular contact with appropriate law enforcement agencies, University staff offices, and off-campus departments as needed, to guarantee clear and timely exchange of information. These entities include, but are not limited to, the Office of Student Life, Residence Life and Housing, Health and Counseling Services, Physical Plant Operations, Public Information/Media Relations (as needed), Adams County Sheriff, and the Denver Police Department.

Required qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • At least 21 years of age at time of hire
  • Must have a current and valid driver’s license and must be approved as an authorized driver by the University prior to recommendation for hire.
  • Must pass FBI and Regis University criminal background checks
  • Must be in possession of a valid City and County of Denver Security Guard License prior to performing job duties as a Campus Safety Officer.
  • One (1) year of law enforcement, campus safety or security experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, whether security-related or not, as determined by the Director.

Special Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification
  • Successfully pass Pressure Point Control and Arrest Tactics (PPCT) or other law enforcement/security self- defense tactics, including the proper use of the expandable baton, chemical defense spray and handcuffs.
  • Ability to acquire working knowledge of applicable federal laws, including the Clery Act, Title IX, and the Violence Against Women Act, as well as relevant state and local laws.
  • Ability to obtain working knowledge of the University’s security procedures and policies, as well as the Emergency Operations Plan.
