Sponsored by CourseraThe Design Engineer will design and price Fire Detection and Life Safety Systems to meet standards like BS5839-1, MOJ specifications, BS7273, BS6266 and more. An understanding of networking principles is essential for interconnected systems. Designs will utilize AutoCAD, based on printed plans for both complete systems and modifications to existing clients’ buildings and site operations.
You will manage all technical aspects of design and tender delivery, demonstrating a commercial mindset and presenting technology solutions to customers as needed.
Formulate and present technical Fire Detection and Life Safety solutions to customers, involving multiple disciplines across various building locations.
Showcase your technical design knowledge and commercial awareness during engagement and project planning.
Navigate ambiguity effectively, meet challenging deadlines, make informed decisions, and adeptly manage change.
Manage multiple competing priorities effectively through strategic planning and delivery.
Embrace new technology and innovative ideas.
Required
Minimum 3 years of experience in a Fire Detection Design or Engineering role with design responsibility, or in electronic security systems such as CCTV & Access Control.
Familiarity with standard BS5839-1.
Mandatory computer skills: proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Packages, particularly Microsoft Excel and Word.
Capability to manage both internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
Experience working in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey technical information to a non-technical audience.
Preferred
FIA Advanced Fire Design Certification – We will support you in pursuing this certification if you have not achieved it yet.
Site experience with surveying and attending design or customer meetings.
Experience of 3D drawing packages (Navisworks, REVIT, etc.).
Knowledge of MOJ, BS7273, and BS6266 requirements.
