SUMMARY

To assure the smooth and efficient operation of the school office so that the office's maximum positive impact on the education of children can be realized

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Maintains school’s financial records and prepares corresponding reports and verifications. 
  1. Receives all moneys belonging to the school, prepares bank deposit, and makes daily deposits at the bank. 
  1. Reconciles requisitions, orders, and invoices and verifies accuracy of these documents. 
  1. Obtains approval from principal before recording, posting, and making final payments on statements. 
  1. Issues Purchase Orders in accordance with the Nelson County Purchasing policy. 
  1. Maintains files associated with accounting such as canceled checks, bank statements, deposit slips, and paid invoices. 
  1. Prepares checks for financial transactions. 
  1. Reconciles canceled checks with bank statements and verifies bank balance with statements. 
  1. Prepares monthly financial statement for principal and School Board office. 
  1. Reviews all accounting records from clubs, organizations, and departments in the school for accuracy and completeness. 
  1. Performs accounting tasks associated with beginning and ending of school year. 
  1. Prepares for audit of all accounts. 
  1. Assumes responsibility for composing all financial correspondence for the principal. 
  1. Performs office practices such as greet and direct visitors, answer phone calls and take messages. 
  1. Performs various office duties in the absence of the school secretary. 
  1. Perform any other duties that may be assigned by principal/supervisor.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages,  and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
