The Stationary Engineer operates and maintains stationary gas and oil-fired boilers, and auxiliary equipment in supplying steam for other than power generating purposes.Under the direction of department Leaders and Sr./Lead Engineer, the Stationary Engineer is accountable for the preventative and corrective utilities maintenance program to ensure efficient and uninterrupted operation. Responsibilities also include adjusting fuel and air, starting pumps, regulating steam flow, checking gauges, maintaining and repairing boiler systems and equipment necessary to ensure the safe, clean and efficient operation of the hospital facilities.
Licensure and Certification:
A valid CA driver’s license required
Boiler/ Steam Engineer license of 500 H.P or greater preferred
Education:
High School diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
Experience:
Minimum 1 year of related work experience; preferably in healthcare setting
Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of equipment, materials,practices, and tools
Knowledge of compliance requirements with OSHPD, DNV, Title 22 & 24 CAC, and Life Safety Codes
Knowledge of all mechanical, electrical and HVAC systems
Knowledge of safe operation/repair of steam boilers, generators, refrigeration plants and other systems applicable to physical plant of hospital environment
Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
Presents self in a professional manner
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work cooperatively and effectively in group/team setting
Ability to maintain a constant, safe, and organized area while working
Ability to work flexible schedule and extended hours, including nights and weekends
Proficiency in all OSHA and safety requirements related to healthcare environment
Physical Demands - Non-Patient Care:
Continues standing/walking and occasional/intermittent sitting.
Continuous use of bilateral upper extremities in fine motor activities requiring fingering, grasping, and forward reaching between waist and chest level.
Continuous reaching at or above shoulder level.
Continuous bending, squatting, kneeling, pushing/pulling, twisting, and climbing.
Continuous lifting and carrying objects/equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Continuous exposure to paint products, solvents, chemicals and flammable substances
Occasional/intermittent exposure to hot/cold working conditions as well as tight/elevated work areas
Continuous use of near vision, hearing and verbal communication skills in handling telephone calls, interacting with customers and co-workers and performing job duties.
