REPORTS TO: Principal

General Responsibilities
Family Engagement Coordinator serves as the liaison between school and parents, relaying the needs of one to the other; ensure that Title I, Part A parent engagement regulations are met with meaningful and strategic actions to build parent capacity under this section of the law; educate teachers and staff on how to communicate and work effectively with parents as equal partners in ensuring the academic achievement of their students; provide opportunities to develop effective family-school partnerships to support student achievement and school improvement; develop community collaborations; promote sharing of power with parents as decision-makers; maintain family resource center.

Specific Duties
PROGRAM COORDINATION AND COLLABORATION

Collaborate with parents, teachers, and the school’s leadership team to develop a family-friendly school climate;
Coordinate opportunities for parents and volunteers to contribute in positive ways towards student achievement and recognize their contributions;
Promote parents as partners by involving them in the decision-making process regarding parent and family engagement activities and school improvement
Meet with parents to discuss, and plan academically-focused workshops to build capacity.
Meet with parents to revise the School Parent and Family Engagement Policy/Plan and develop a proposed Title I and Parent Engagement 1% budgets for the next fiscal year.
Work with school principal, staff, and parents to develop a Compact for each grade level or academic department.

COMMUNICATION AND TRAINING

Provide academically-focused workshops, classes, and activities for parents at their local school on a regular basis;
Provide school engagement materials such as event calendars, brochures, educational resources, videos and digital and social media; conduct professional learning training with all faculty and staff to determine school needs and discuss purposeful administration of effective strategies in family engagement;
Create opportunities for parents who have limited English proficiency, a disability or are underrepresented because of social economics or racial barriers to participate in education initiatives and enrichment workshops;
Conducts trainings with school staff during faculty meetings to determine school needs and shares updates on parent and family engagement best practices and proper administration
Submit parent recommendations to the District Family Engagement Coordinator for the State School Superintendent’s Parent Advisory Council (PAC) by September.

COMPLIANCE

Maintain excellent records of all parent and family engagement activities, reports, surveys evaluations, funding, Title I monitoring documents and communications to parents;
Maintain accurate documents for Title I monitoring. Keep documentation of all letters, flyers, sign-in sheets, log-in sheets and agendas in your file folders in English and Spanish (as well as any other language necessary to communicate effectively with parents). Ensure that all documentation has a date.
Ensure the school parent and family engagement program remains in compliance with all state and federal guidelines;
Stay informed of the most current parental and family engagement requirements and guidance
Follow District guidelines for volunteers at the schools and maintain an updated volunteer list. Set up and maintain the Parent/ Volunteer Program and keep parent/visitor sign-in sheets.
Perform other duties pertaining to Title1 which may be assigned by the Principal.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Take part in professional learning opportunities at the local, regional, and/or state level with proper authorization;
Attend all local meetings and trainings for Family Engagement Coordinators;

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Experience serving as an advocate for children and parents
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Self-motivated leader who can work independently as well as part of a team
Strong interpersonal skills
Knowledge of family engagement research and literature
Strong knowledge of computers and fundamental technology (i.e. e-learning software, digital and social media)
Understands and respects the diversity of families’ economic, linguistic and cultural backgrounds and situations
Experience with developing collaborative partners and building relationships with constituents in the community
Experience working in Title I schools
Strong understanding of student achievement data
Ability to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends
