About the Department

****Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawai’i may apply for Casual Hire appointments, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits provided to regular Board of Regents or Civil Service employees. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Schedule:  Monday-Friday, up to 10 hours/wk

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Work on technical or specialty area problems and is expected to reflect sound judgment and analysis.
  2. Assist with Front End Developer software development.
  3. Create and edit STAR educational videos.
  4. Design and update all STAR web applications and images.
  5. Other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Graphic Web Design or related field, and 4 years of progressively responsible professional web design and information technology experience with responsibilities for software/web graphic design and development; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Experience and Functional knowledge of higher education software design and web development demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply principles, concepts, methodology, design principles and terminology using brand guidelines.
  3. Experience, functional knowledge and understanding of technology, systems, hardware and software associated with higher education software development.
  4. Demonstrated ability to recognize software and web design implementation problems, identify possible causes and resolve routine problems.
  5. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
  7. Demonstrated ability to speak, read, comprehend, interpret, and write fluently in English.
  8. Experience in HTML, CSS, Javascript, Java, jQuery, AJAX and Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign, Illustrator, XD, Premier Pro, Lightroom, After Effects and Photoshop.
  9. Experience in Web Video production using DaVinci Resolve.
  10. Knowledge of version control tools such as CVS, SVN or GIT.
  11. Experience in modem IDEs


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience in GUI design and Tomcat.
  2. Knowledge of opensource frameworks (Angular).
  3. Experience and working knowledge of STAR software design; including, but not limited to Direct Admit, Balance, Academic Logic, Giving Tree and STAR GPS.
  4. Experience and working knowledge of STAR software brand guidelines.
