Job Description

At Aberdeen, our ambition is to be the UK’s leading Wealth & Investments group.

Strengthening talent and culture is one of our strategic priorities. We strive to make Aberdeen a great place to work so that we can attract and retain the industry’s best talent.

Our people put our stakeholders at the heart of everything they do by helping us to make a positive difference to the lives of our clients, customers, colleagues, shareholders, and society.

We are focused on growing our direct and advised wealth platforms and repositioning our specialist asset management business to meet client demand. We are committed to providing excellent client service, supported by leading technology and talent.

Aberdeen comprises three businesses, interactive investor (ii), Investments, and Adviser, each of which focuses on meeting and adapting to our clients’ evolving needs:

  • interactive investor, the UK’s second largest direct-to-consumer investment platform, enables individuals in the UK to plan, save, and invest in the way that works for them.

  • Our Adviser business provides financial planning solutions and technology for UK financial advisers, enabling them to create value for their customers.

  • Our Investments business is a specialist asset manager that focuses on areas where we have both strength and scale to capitalise on the key themes shaping the market, through either public markets or alternative asset classes.

About the Department

As a Software Engineer (Full Stack), you will be a member of the Development Chapter within the Asset Management Tribe, reporting to the Development Chapter Lead and working as part of a cross-functional team. You will contribute to the design, development, and support of systems that are critical to our investment operations and reporting capabilities. The solutions you develop will support investment professionals across the firm, giving you visibility and the chance to make a tangible impact on decision-making and operational efficiency.

About the Role

This is a hands-on engineering role that combines deep technical expertise with strong business engagement. You will work closely with investment professionals, analysts, and operations teams to understand their needs and deliver solutions that support portfolio management, data analysis, and regulatory reporting. Your ability to translate business requirements into scalable, maintainable technology will be essential to your success.

While your primary focus will be on application development aligned to your core skillset, you will also have opportunities to work across a broader technology landscape and collaborate with engineers from other disciplines. You will be encouraged to explore new tools and approaches, and to contribute to the evolution of our technology platforms. You will also be involved in Level 3 production support and ensure effective handover to operational teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain full-stack (C#.NET, Python, etc) applications and services that support investment operations, ensuring scalability, performance, and security.

  • Build and maintain data integration and transformation pipelines, working with tools such as Azure Data Factory and SQL-based technologies.

  • Collaborate closely with business stakeholders, analysts, and other engineers to understand requirements and deliver fit-for-purpose solutions.

  • Contribute to the evolution of our cloud-native architecture, with a focus on leveraging Microsoft Azure services effectively.

  • Promote and implement engineering best practices, including test automation, CI/CD pipelines, and secure coding standards, and participate in code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing.

  • Explore and apply AI-assisted development tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot) and automation to improve engineering efficiency and solution quality.

About the Candidate

We are looking for someone who thrives in an Agile environment, is self-motivated, and embraces continuous improvement. You should be comfortable working in a regulated environment, balancing innovation with compliance, and be curious about how emerging technologies (including AI) can be applied to solve real-world challenges in investment management.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Solid understanding of software development practices, including unit testing, in an Asset Management or Finance Technology environment

  • Flexibility across technologies, drive to learn about the business and future technology, and an innovative approach to problem solving, solutions, and technology

  • Strong skills in .NET (C#) and JavaScript

  • Proficiency in SQL

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure and Snowflake

  • Experience with API development, including REST API, JSON, and XML

  • Experience with code deployment, DevOps tooling, and CI/CD pipelines

We are proud to be a Disability Confident Committed employer.
