Position Overview:
Provides mentor support to youth who reside at Children’s Village residential programs as well as youth who live in the community As a WAY HOME Coach and Fair Futures Mentor, staff works to recruit, engage, and support the young people of WAY in progressing towards their education, work, savings goals, and permanency. The Coach will conduct 2 or more face to face visits with their youth in residential and community youth. Also, coach will assist in running workshops monthly where youth participating in the program will strengthen their independent living skills.
Knowledge of city-wide community resources is required. Coaches will be responsible for organizing group meals for each group session, community activities, case conferences, treatment meetings, advocacy, 1:1 coaching, and assisting in areas of social, education, employment, permanency, with emphasis on social and networking development as well as data entry into Care4 system.
The goal of the program is to help build positive peer relationships and strengthen social transitions for young people exiting foster care and living in the community.
Position Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Preferred or minimum 2 years or more experience working with at-risk youth. Demonstrate initiative and creativity, particularly with adolescents. Demonstrate experience in group work. Demonstrate understanding of the issues of the NYC community. Demonstrate understanding of the issues facing Black and Latino adolescents. Ability to work as a team member and independently. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with youth and staff. Demonstrate ability to effectively use a multi-cultural approach in working with special needs youth. Excellent oral communication skills. Obtain a valid NYS Driver’s License.
