GIS Specialist

CHELCO Seeks GIS Specialist

This Position:

We�re looking for a GIS Specialist to support our growing Cooperative. The ideal candidate for this position will be able to assist in overseeing and maintaining the GIS/GPS electronic mapping database, ensuring its accuracy and viability. He/she will design or prepare graphic representations of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data, using GIS hardware or software applications. They will be responsible for the integrity of all mapping data. He/she will also help with reviewing existing or incoming GIS data for currency, accuracy, usefulness, quality, or completeness of documentation, and provide GIS support, technical guidance, direction, and assistance to other employees.

GIS Specialist Minimum Requirements:

• High School diploma or equivalent and at least 10 years related experience; an Associate�s Degree in a related field and at least six years of related experience; GIS Certificate or ESRI Certification and 5 years related experience; Bachelor�s Degree in a related field and at least three years of related experience; or Master�s Degree in a related field and at least two years of related experience.
• Must have knowledge of the basic principles of drafting and mapping systems such as GIS, GPS, and CAD.
• Geography- Knowledge of principles and methods for describing the features of land, sea, and air masses, including their physical characteristics, locations, and interrelationships.
• English Language- Ability to converse with internal and/or external customers in English.
• Mathematics- Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, statistics, and their applications.
• Design- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in the production of precision drawings and models.

Position Duties:

The GIS Specialist personally performs the following duties (not all-inclusive):

• Maintain maps that accurately depict the services, equipment, power lines, structure, and members of the Cooperative in the GIS Systems.
• Create and modify any drawings requested for use throughout the Cooperative.
• Interpret staking sheets and maps and post to the GIS Mapping System using CHELCO�s assemblies and required construction symbols. Research materials used on a service order.

Choctawhatchee Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CHELCO) is not like other utilities. We are a not-for-profit cooperative, meaning we are owned solely by our members. We are unlike investor-owned utilities because we do not have shareholders to answer to. We are an electric distribution cooperative employing more than 181 people and serving more than 66,000 accounts in Walton, Okaloosa, Holmes, and Santa Rosa counties in the panhandle of Florida.

The cooperative owns and maintains over 4,600 miles of line, including those on Eglin Air Force Base. We have six area offices, including our headquarters in DeFuniak Springs.

The normal workweek is Monday through Thursday, 7:00 am to 4:30 pm, and every other Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm mainly reports to the CHELCO Headquarters building in DeFuniak Springs. This position is ONSITE only. This position may have occasional overtime as needed. With the exception of STD/LTD/FMLA & approved time off, attendance at a designated worksite location is considered essential.
