Safety Patrol Assistant

Title: Safety Patrol Assistant
Location: Cooperstown Elementary School
Reports to: Director of Extracurricular Activities

Purpose: The Safety Patrol Assistant supports the Safety Patrol Advisor in leading the school's student safety patrol program, ensuring the safety of students during arrival, dismissal, and other critical times. In addition, the Safety Patrol Assistant provides coverage for the program in the absence of the Safety Patrol Advisors. Duties and activities of the Advisor are identified below.

Activities:

1. Program Leadership
   • Recruit and select student volunteers to serve as safety patrol members.
   • Train students on safety procedures, patrol expectations, and leadership skills.
   • Assign patrol members to designated areas around the school for monitoring safety, including crosswalks, entrances, and bus zones.

2. Safety Supervision:
   • Monitor the effectiveness of student patrols and ensure that all safety protocol are being followed.
   • Supervise students during patrol times to ensure they are performing duties safely and effectively.
   • Address safety concerns or issues that arise, working closely with staff, parents, and local law enforcement when necessary.

3. Communication:
   • Serve as the liaison between school administration, parents, and the safety patrol members.
   • Regularly communicate with staff to coordinate safety efforts during special events or emergencies.
   • Provide feedback to safety patrol members and recognize exemplary performance.

2. Leadership Development:
   • Foster leadership and responsibility in student patrol members, encouraging teamwork, punctuality, and accountability.
   • Conduct regular meetings to review safety protocols, address challenges, and celebrate successes.
   • Promote positive student behaviors and serve as a role model for leadership and integrity.

3. Program Administration:
   • Maintain records of student participation, training sessions, and patrol schedules.
   • Plan and organize recognition events for safety patrol members (e.g., award ceremonies).
   • Ensure all safety equipment (vests, signs, etc.) is well maintained and available
   • Supervise fundraising efforts
   • Organize yearly trip
