About the Position

The Manager, Outdoor Programs – Day Camp at Girl Scouts of Western Washington (GSWW) assists in the development and delivery of all outdoor experience programs including fall and spring weekend programs and summer camp programming at their assigned camp property. This position serves as the Seasonal Camp Director for the summer camp programs at their assigned property and is required to live on-site for the duration of summer camp. This role ensures outdoor program offerings support the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, Girl Scouts of Western Washington goals, and are engaging, well-attended, and financially sustainable.

This is a regular, full-time position that is non-exempt from September through May, and exempt when required to live on camp property from June through August. Residency within the GSWW Council region of Western Washington is required, with preference for those living within reasonable driving distance of Camp River Ranch. While the full pay range is $31.85 to $35.83 per hour ($66,240 to $74,520 annually), this position will start at $31.85 per hour/$66,240 annually for purposes of internal pay equity.

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Creates and implements an annual calendar offering of programs that specialize in outdoor experiences such as year-round programs, weekend programs, and summer camp opportunities.
• Develops outdoor experience curriculum and program activities designed to meet the needs of Girl Scouts and volunteers in partnership with all Outdoor Program team members.
• Serves as the on-site Seasonal Camp Director for summer camp programs including overseeing daily operations, program planning, food service, business operations, camper and staff supervision, and healthcare.
• Communicates and provides excellent customer service to volunteers, families, and caregivers including but not limited to program communications, transportation, camper behavior, health updates, and addressing caregiver concerns and complaints.
• Plans, implements, and monitors program events and summer camp budgets, including forecasting revenue and expenses, to align budgets with organizational goals.
• Collaborates with the Philanthropy and Property teams to cultivate, support, and engage the camp affinity groups.
• Collaborates with Human Resources to support the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes for positions within assigned team, ensuring alignment with organizational staffing needs and equity practices.
• Provides direct supervision, guidance, and support to seasonal staff, as well as episodic program facilitators.
• Oversees the implementation of policies and procedures in compliance with American Camp Association Standards, Girl Scouts of the USA Safety Activity Checkpoints, and Girl Scouts of Western Washington policies. 
• Collaborates cross-functionally with other departments for the promotion, recruitment, and logistics of program activities and summer camp offerings.

• Ability to navigate technology programs and platforms independently including Microsoft 365, with the ability and willingness to learn new technologies.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position directly supervises a team of seasonal employees during the summer camp season as well as episodic program facilitators during the fall and spring program season.
 

Education and Experience Required

• Three seasons or more of administrative or supervisory experience in an organized camp setting or youth program development.
• Must be 25 years of age or older, in accordance with American Camp Association Standards.

Education and Experience Preferred

• Bachelor’s degree in recreation, education, non-profit management or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with Girl Scout camps or programming.
• Knowledge of American Camp Association Standards.
• Experience with CampMinder software.

Other Qualifications

• Certification in or ability to become certified in First Aid/CPR and one or more of the following: lifeguard instructor, archery instructor, paddle sport instructor, sailing instructor, Association of Challenge Course Technology Level 1 or higher.
• Must reside within Washington State, with preference of residence within reasonable driving distance of Camp River Ranch, located in Carnation, WA.
• Must live on-site at assigned camp property during the summer camp season.
• Must be available to work in a camp setting with a variable work week and potentially long hours, including early mornings, evenings, overnight and weekends, on a consistent basis.
• Valid Washington State driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, proof of insurance and the ability to fulfill travel requirements across widespread regional geography on a regular basis. 
• Satisfactory results from a criminal background check.
• Willingness to maintain Girl Scout membership.
• Must be willing and able to come into a Girl Scouts of Western Washington office or alternative worksite as needed or when requested.
