Description
The Assisted Living RN Administrator is responsible for overseeing an Assisted Living (Residential Care Apartment Complex (RCAC) program at Deerwood Crossing Senior Residences, an Independent and Assisted Living Residence operated by JFS Housing, Inc. in Brown Deer. This role is integral in assuring the highest quality of care, support, and supervision for our residents as it relates to program operations, client service delivery, staff supervision and risk management.
Administrative
- Manage day to day service-related operations of the Assisted Living program.
- Assure compliance with applicable state and federal rules and regulations for Assisted Living licensing (RCAC WI Chapter 89).
- Work with the VP of Housing and Chief Financial Officer to ensure that budget goals related to services and operations are met.
- Monitor, process, approve and submit payroll to the Accounting department on a bi-weekly basis.
- Perform Human Resource support functions including: interviewing, hiring, new hire orientation/training, staff development, discipline and, as needed, separations.
- Conduct ongoing chart reviews for Quality Assurance and respond as necessary to client service issues that require follow-up, incident report’, etc.
- Assure that all required service agreements are in place and risk reduction documents, if applicable, are in place and current.
- Supervise Resident Assistant, Housekeeping, Food Service, Transportation, Programming, and administrative employees.
- Schedule and conduct regular staff meetings.
- Ensure coverage of staff shift vacancies, up to and including working open Resident Assistant shifts, on an as-needed basis.
Programmatic
- Act as liaison between Deerwood Crossing and Assisted Living clients, external case managers, family members, health care providers, etc.
- Maintain a work environment that emphasizes compassionate and respectful treatment of all residents, visitors, and staff to ensure consistent delivery of the highest quality service.
- Maintain and improve systems to communicate, collaborate, and coordinate Assisted Living program initiatives, services and resources related to medical care, personal care, dietary and recreational activities, and physician services.
- Participate in the pre-admission Initial Assessment process to ensure appropriate placement at Deerwood Crossing.
- Respond to resident, external provider and building manager requests.
Medication Administration and Nursing
- Provides oversight and supervision of medication administration.
- Provides training and delegation to Resident Assistants, and other staff, as appropriate, for medication administration and other delegated duties.
- Ensures that medication administration is conducted in accordance with established policies and procedures as well as state regulations for an RCAC.
- Develops a full understanding of the electronic medication administration record (eMAR) system to oversee medication administration. We use Extended Care Professional (ECP).
- Performs assessments for potential residents and current residents returning to the facility after hospitalization and rehabilitation as well as annual reassessments.
- Educates and mentor employees on various issues that pertain to resident health.
- Maintains regular communication with staff regarding resident medication and health issues.
- Participates in Quality Improvement initiatives.
General
- Must have a valid driver’s license, access to reliable vehicle, and automobile insurance coverage throughout employment and successfully pass a MVR and insurability check.
- Knowledge, understanding, and/or willingness to learn Jewish culture and traditions and those of the Agency population as necessary.
- Ability to work independently, including at off-site locations, maintain and organize workloads, and sustain productivity as determined by supervisor.
- Accept other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Candidates must successfully pass a criminal background check with the Wisconsin Department of Justice and a caregiver background check with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, the Department of Children and Families and the Department Safety and Professional Services.
Requirements
- Must be a Registered Nurse with a current Wisconsin license
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a management and/or supervisory position managing employees in an assisted living setting.
- A good understanding of the state regulations of an RCAC (DHS 89)
- Must have genuine interest in the needs of elderly population. Must have an understanding of the problems they encounter and have patience and tact in servicing their needs
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
- Excellent oral and written communication skills combined with interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Knowledge of, or ability to learn computer programs specific to the facility, including an Electronic Medication Administration Record system and a Nurse Call system.
- Proficient in computer use and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong organizational, critical thinking and problem solving skills.
- Willingness to work on weekends; on call on a rotational basis, as needed.
- Ability to occasionally work outside of regular work hours, as needed.
- Attend and participate in departmental meetings, in-services and training as required
- Able to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time, and reach, twist, sit squat, climb stairs, reach above shoulders and bend at knees
- Able to speak clearly and distinguish sounds such as voice patterns and tape recordings
- Able to concentrate on fine detail with constant interruption, and attend to task/detail for more than 60 minutes at a time
- Able to remember multiple tasks/assignments over long periods of time
