  • Providing excellent support to Whatcom County’s Victim/Witness Assistant Unit of the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office?
  • Working independently with minimal supervision in a high-volume, fast-paced environment?
  • Communicating the legal process and advocating for victims and/or witnesses of crimes?

If you answered yes to these questions, we hope to hear about your qualifications to fill this key role in the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. The Victim Witness Coordinator provides a variety of specialized support services to primarily victims and witnesses of adult gross misdemeanor crimes involving domestic violence crimes in accordance with the Crime Victims Act of 1982, balancing team and individual responsibilities with minimal supervision and within established guidelines. Provides victim/witness notification, guidance and information about the legal and restitution processes. Answers questions pertaining to departmental functions and provides information about appropriate community resources for counseling, health and protective services, and Crime Victim’s Compensation. Complies with legal standards and requirements.

Office hours: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday

Salary Range: $27.92 - $40.25 (MCBA- Range 130.0)

Hiring rate depends on qualifications.  This position receives annual pay increases to the next step in the associated salary range (apx. 3.8%) subject to satisfactory performance, in addition to any negotiated Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA).

We are required by State Law to list the full salary range.  As a public entity and in a union-covered position, we are required to make pay decisions based on experience, qualifications, and equity with other employees.  Hiring rate typically is limited to entry to mid of the posted salary range, subject to required approvals.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a High School diploma or GED AND 5 years of progressively responsible experience providing system or community-based advocacy services. 

OR

  • Requires an associate’s degree in human services, Criminal Justice or a closely related field AND 3 years of progressively responsible experience providing system or community-based advocacy services. 

OR

  • A bachelor’s degree in human services, Criminal Justice or a closely related field AND 1 year of progressively responsible experience providing system or community-based advocacy services. 

Additional Requirements:

  • Certification for 40 hours of Core Advocacy Training preferred.

  • Must be able to type accurately and proficiently with a speed of 60 net words per minute.

  • Must have a background check that meets County criteria and CJIS security.

  • Must have a driving record that meets County standards and possess a valid driver's license at time of hire and throughout employment.

  • Required to complete advocacy certification at the next available Washington State Victim Assistance Academy after hiring, if certification has not already been attained provided funding is available.
