POSITION: Accounting Specialist

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience in accounting, auditing, or finance-related fields.

  • Knowledge of governmental accounting principles, procedures, and reporting requirements.

  • Proficiency in accounting software (LINQ preferred), Microsoft Excel, and financial reporting systems.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

  • School finance experience, preferred.

REPORTS TO: Director of Fiscal Services

JOB GOAL:
To support the financial operations of Edgecombe County Public Schools by ensuring accurate accounting, reporting, and compliance with state, local, and federal requirements, while providing guidance and training to school-based bookkeepers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receive and record e-receipts, checks, and money orders; prepare daily bank deposits.

  • Post monies in LINQ (general ledger) and enter miscellaneous journal entries.

  • Process wire transfers as needed.

  • Prepare and submit MAC quarterly report and annual Cost Report.

  • Submit grant reimbursement requests and complete monthly FSRs for DEPC.

  • Prepare and submit required reports, including the Local Government Commission (LGC) report.

  • Manage yearly unclaimed property/escheats for Central Office and schools.

  • Calculate and post STIF interest earned for the district.

  • Request substitute reimbursement from outside agencies.

  • Serve as liaison and trainer for school bookkeepers, providing guidance and support on financial procedures.

  • Review charter school invoices, calculate per pupil allotments, and submit to Accounts Payable for payment.

  • Audit schools’ accounting records to ensure compliance with state and local regulations.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Fiscal Services.

MONTHS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12

SALARY: Edgecombe County Public Schools Finance Department Salary Schedule, plus local supplement.

EVALUATION:
Annually, using the Edgecombe County Public Schools Classified Performance Appraisal Instrument.
