About the Position

The Director, Community Engagement advances the strategic growth and reach of Girl Scouts of Western Washington (GSWW) by developing sustainable, equitable pathways to participation for communities historically excluded from Girl Scouting. This role leads staff-led and staff-supported recruitment strategies and deepens engagement with diverse communities across the council. Through cross-departmental collaboration and innovative participation, the Director ensures access to Girl Scouts is equitable, culturally relevant, and responsive to local community needs.

This is a regular, full-time (40 hours per week), exempt role that requires residency in Washington State, preferably within our Council region of Western Washington. Work can be conducted remotely, but successful candidates must be willing and able to come into a GSWW office as needed or when requested. This position will start at $84,125 annually for the purpose of internal pay equity.

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provides direct supervision, guidance, and support to assigned staff, including performance management, coaching, professional development, and delegation of responsibilities in alignment with organizational goals and policies.
• Collaborates with Human Resources to support the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes for positions within assigned team, ensuring alignment with organizational staffing needs and equity practices.
• Leads the development and execution of staff-led and supported recruitment strategies in alignment with GSWW’s growth goals.
• Directs outreach efforts to engage historically excluded communities, including Black, Latinx, Asian, Pacific Islander, and Native American populations.
• Partners with the VP, Membership, Director, Community Development, Director, Volunteer Relations, and Supervisor, Membership Specialists to ensure coordinated efforts across departments.
• Supervises and supports the teams for Staff-Led Troops, Girl Scouts Beyond Bars, and Affinity Troops to build inclusive programming and sustainable participation.
• Collaborates with program, outreach, and membership teams to implement new, innovative membership pathways, including school- and community-based Girl Scout models.
• Enhances partnerships with schools, community centers, and service organizations to expand reach and remove barriers to participation.
• Utilizes data to inform strategies for invitation, activation, and retention of girls and families.
• Fosters a culture of inclusion and innovation across teams and community engagement efforts.
• Develops replicable models for outreach and staff-supported troop structures to scale impact across the council.
• Represents GSWW at community events, working groups, and forums focused on equity and youth development.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position oversees all employees working in Staff-Led Troops, Community Engagement, and Girl Scouts Beyond Bars programs. This includes both direct and indirect supervision of staff.

Education and Experience Required

• Three years of experience working in community engagement, youth programming, or a related field.
• Two years of experience in staff supervision and program development.
• Demonstrated experience working with racially, culturally, and economically diverse communities; OR
• Equivalent combination of related experience and education.

Education and Experience Preferred

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Bilingual or multilingual skills.
• Experience designing and leading culturally responsive programs.
• Familiarity with the Girl Scout movement or similar youth-serving organizations.

Other Qualifications

• Must reside in Washington State, preferably within the GSWW council region.
• Valid Washington State driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and proof of insurance.
• Ability to travel regionally to schools, community centers, and offices as needed.
• Satisfactory results from criminal background check.
• Willingness to maintain Girl Scout membership.
• Must be willing and able to come into a Girl Scouts of Western Washington office or alternative worksite as needed or when requested.
