About the Job
As a Technical Program Manager (TPM) for Technology Operations, you will be the "glue" that ensures Varo’s technical infrastructure remains stable, secure, and highly efficient. This isn't a siloed administrative role; it is a high-impact blend of reactive leadership and proactive engineering. You will act as a primary guardian of our regulatory integrity, managing high-stakes initiatives like PCI compliance while directly improving the daily quality of life for our engineers by systematically reducing system noise. You will report to the Director of Technology Operations and work in a fast-paced "fixer" environment where you have the autonomy to transform our operational maturity. From shepherding live incident restoration to auditing AWS alerting systems and automating runbooks, your work will directly protect the customer experience and support Varo’s mission to scale the future of banking.
What you'll be doing
Incident Shepherding: Lead the charge during and after service disruptions to ensure rapid restoration and effective post-mortem management.Alerting System Optimization: Audit and simplify the AWS alerting system, eliminating "junk" alerts to restore clarity and focus for engineering teams.Risk & Compliance Management: Own the end-to-end tracking of risk and issue tickets, ensuring 100% on-time closure to maintain strict regulatory standing.Cross-Functional Program Delivery: Drive large-scale technical projects, specifically acting as the TPM lead for upcoming PCI-DSS certification and platform security initiatives.Operational Automation: Partner with engineering to update and automate runbooks based on incident lessons learned, shifting the team from a reactive to a proactive state.Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as the central hub between Platform, Security, and Engineering teams to align Tech Ops strategy with business goals.
You'll bring the following required skills and experiences
Technical Expertise: Extensive experience navigating the AWS Console and CloudWatch to audit infrastructure and manage complex alerting systems.Incident Management Mastery: Proven track record in live incident response and a deep understanding of SRE or ITIL principles.Compliance Experience: Direct experience managing PCI-DSS compliance frameworks and delivering high-stakes regulatory projects.Program Leadership: 7+ years of experience as a TPM, with a demonstrated ability to shepherd multiple cross-functional teams toward a single delivery goal.Operational Tooling: Expert-level proficiency in Jira for risk tracking and experience with Runbook Automation tools.Resilience & Bias for Action: Ability to remain calm under pressure during service disruptions and a "fixer" mentality focused on clearing technical debt.
